Research shows that maintaining high retention rates in distance learning education is a challenge. There are various tools and resources available web-based tools that can help identify at-risk students and measure and boost opportunities for growth and success. Students can take advantage of these resources to prepare ahead of time to ensure a "SMART" start and successful completion of their online course work.

First we will review SmarterMeasure to identify attributes, skills and knowledge and assess competencies necessary for successful distance learning and help identify potential resources to help maximize efficiency in potentially deficient areas.

Then we will review SMARThinking that helps educational institutions offer students outstanding academic support through a network of professionally certified educators focused on increasing student achievement and enhance learning.

This program allows users to type in Arabic whether or not they have Arabic enabled on their computer. The display includes a picture of a keyboard that allows users to see what keys correspond to the Arabic letters. What is typed appears in a window on the page, which users can then copy and paste to whatever document or other website they are using. Magictyper is available is for multiple languages and is free to use, although donations are welcomed.

Yamli Editor is a "smart keyboard" that allows users to type using a Roman-alphabet keyboard and transliterates the words into Arabic text. Users can type with letters, but also the numbers that are often employed in modern Arabic texting as substitutes for some Arabic letters (such as 3 for 'ein or 9 for SaD). Under the "quick tips" icon, Yamli offers a list of all the substitutions for Arabic letters that do not have exact equivalents in English.
