    Overview

    This unit is presented as a quick informational video on the history of field hockey as well as the positions, equipment, and rules to be followed in order to play. 

    What is Field Hockey?

    This unit is presented as a quick informational video on the history of field hockey as well as the positions, equipment, and rules to be followed in order to play. 

    Grade: Grades 9-12

    Time frame: 30 Minutes

    Lesson Objectives:

    • Teach students the basic rules and regulations of field hockey
    • Teach students how to properly hold stick and dribble
    Prior to this lesson: What understanding and/or knowledge was taught prior? Where does this lesson fit in your unit?
    • Nothing would have been taught prior, it would fit into my unit of teaching different sports to students in grades 9-12
    Materials: Include a copy of everything required to teach. Use hyperlinks when possible. You may add additional pages to the bottom of this lesson plan also. Include the assignment that students will be completing.Technology materials: (hardware, websites, video links,etc.)

    • Focus on the development of the whole athlete, sport coaches prioritize opportunities for development over winning at all costs. Sport coaches provide opportunities for athletes to reach their full potential within the sport.

    Watch Adobe Spark video on the background of field hockey along with the basic rules and equipment needed (2:50)

    Have a brief Q&A with students, if they have any remaining questions or need clarification

    15 Mins.Field hockey balls & sticks

    Give each student a stick and ball to teach them how to hold the stick (5 Minutes)

    Show them how to dribble both in place and on the move (5 Minutes)

    Let students practice on their own (5 Minutes)

    5 Mins.Laptop or IpadFeedback: Students will fill out a Google Form to check comprehension & give a short response to what they liked/disliked and if there is anything to go into further detail on
