    Practices 

    Students play Kahoot to learn more about the German school system and how it differs from the U.S. educational system.  Schüler spielen Kahoot, um mehr über das deutsche Schulsystem und seine Unterschiede zum US-amerikanischen Bildungssystem zu erfahren.

    • Deine Freundin will ihr zimmer malen. An ihrer stelle, welche farbe würdest du wählen? Warum? (Your girlfriend wants to paint her room. If you were her, which color would you choose? Why?)
    • Wenn ich viel geld hätte, würde ich… (If I had a lot of money, I would...)
    • Wenn ich reisen dürfte, würde ich… (If I were allowed to travel, I would...)
    • Wenn ich größer wäre, könnte ich… (If I were taller, I could...)
    • Macht ihr einen Satz und benutzt zwei wörter aus den Listen. Schreibt eure Sätze in den Chat rein. (Make one sentence and use two words from the lists. Write your sentences in the chat.)

    1. Students will play a short Kahoot game answering questions about the German school system.

    Die Schüler spielen ein kurzes Kahoot-Spiel, das Fragen zum deutschen Schulsystem beantwortet.

    • Was ist etwas vergleichbar zu der amerikanischen "High School"? (What is comparable to the American "high school"?)
    • Richtig oder Falsch: Kindergarten ist die erste Klasse in der Grundschule in Deutschland. (True or False: Kindergarten is the first grade in primary school in Germany.)
    • Man braucht ein ___, um sich bei einer Uni zu bewerben. (You need a ___ to apply to a university.)
    • Nach der Schule muss man heutzutage einen Zivildienst (in die Armee gehen) machen. (After school, nowadays you have to do a civil service (go into the army).)

    2. After playing the game, they will learn more about the school system from the Google Presentation.

    • Nach dem Spielen des Spiels erfahren sie anhand der Google-Präsentation mehr über das Schulsystem.

    Wrap-Up

    Put students into breakout rooms to discuss the following questions. Stellen Sie die Studenten in Breakout Rooms damit sie die folgenden Fragen zusammen diskutieren können.

    1. Wie findet ihr die Idee von den drei verschiedenen Schulen? Gut, oder schlecht? (What do you think about the idea of three different schools? Good or bad?)
    2. Sollen wir auch sowas haben? Warum, warum nicht? (Should we also have something like this for our school system? Why or why not?)

    First is a video about the educational differences between the German Education System and the U.S. Education System. Second is a video over the Day-to-Day Differences for a German Students vs. a U.S. Student. Both are in English. The third is an Easy German video about Student Live (University Level): German vs. U.S.

    End of Activity

    • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate
      their confidence.
      (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
    • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
    • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
