ABLE Interactive Tutorials are designed to make training from supplemental service providers available to all practitioners anytime, anywhere in an engaging way. Each tutorial is a short, specific tutorial. Using DOK 2 & 3 questions, practitioners are able to engage with the content and reflect on their own instruction while they earn CEUs.

Foundational Practices of Online Writing Instruction, edited by Beth L. Hewett and Kevin Eric DePew, with associate editors Elif Guler and Robbin Zeff Warner, addresses the questions and decisions that administrators and instructors most need to consider when developing online writing programs and courses. Written by experts in the field (members of the Conference on College Composition and Communication Committee for Effective Practices in OWI and other experts and stakeholders), the contributors to this collection explain the foundations of the recently published (2013) A Position Statement of Principles and Examples Effective Practices for OWI and provide illustrative practical applications. To that end, in every chapter, the authors address issues of inclusive and accessible writing instruction (based upon physical and mental disability, linguistic ability, and socioeconomic challenges) in technology enhanced settings.

Our goals From the beginning, this was conceived as an ongoing project. This website will be used in our courses and will continue to be developed by students. The goal is for people to learn about metacognition and its role in learning. We believe that learning can happen the most effectively when learners engage with open educational resources not just as passive consumers of information, but as active participants in meaningful knowledge creation. Why metacognition? Developing metacognitive awareness is shown to contribute to learning transfer, helping learners to use their knowledge and apply what they've learned in new contexts. As English teachers, we know that metacognitive awareness and the open discussion of metacognitive processes helps learners to develop and refine skills in reading, writing, and researching. Metacognition is something we all do in countless contexts, so it's something that anyone can meaningfully engage in discussing and learning. Please join us! We hope that other instructors will encourage their students to engage with these OER in the spirit of open pedagogy. We selected metacognition as a topic from the perspective of English teachers, knowing its integral role in working with language. We believe that metacognitive awareness is crucial to any type of learning. In particular, learners focused on study skills and college success benefit greatly from metacognitive awareness. Learners of psychology and education would also have much to gain from engaging with this topic. Resources for building literacy and reading fluency with beginning level adult learners. These two short stories were originally created for a beginning level class of adult Somali women. The stories are set in a familiar context and are designed to help the readers learn the names of rooms and features in an apartment or house. All of the essays in this reader are versatile rhetorically and thematically. It is arranged alphabetically by author name. Each essay has a series of hashtags that apply to the essay in some way. You can search for essays thematically for topics like education, the environment, politics, or health. You can also search for essays based on composition concepts like analysis, synthesis, and research. You can search for essays that are based on shared values, essays that rely heavily on ethos, logos, or pathos, essays that are very kairos-dependent, and essays that are scholarly. This collection was created in Google Docs so that it is easily adapted and edited.

Students learn how to annotate texts through the process of C.A.T.C.H. Then, they will use their annotations to make meaning by inferring/interpreting and evaluating/making judgments. Through this 10 1/2 minute video instruction and three handouts students will learn and practice an easy to remember 3-step process to critical thinking that will make their learning visible and help them discover how and why they can make meaning out of everything they read, see, and hear.
