This resource is used in the Introduction to Education course at Middle Tennessee State University. Readers will explore the foundations of American education through a critical lens. Modules include, social foundations of education, theoretical and ethical perspectives as well as an introduction to curriculum, assessment and classroom management.

This book was written to provide students with an introduction to the field of education. The book is broken into chapters that focus on questions students may have about education in general. Although some chapters may go into more depth than others, this is created as an introductory text.

Sociology of Education in Canada utilizes a contemporary theoretical focus to analyze how education in Canada is affected by pre-existing and persistent inequalities among members of society. It presents the historical and cultural factors that have shaped our current education system, examines the larger social trends that have contributed to present problems, and more.

Readers will learn about the nature of health, health education, health promotion and related concepts. This will help to understand the social, psychological and physical components of health.

Students who do not know what careers they would like to pursue will be asked to review supplementary career resources such as the Occupational Handbook or the Virginia Wizard or the local employment office or any authoritative resources which could give them information about career pathways. Students will choose at least two occupations that they would be interested in pursuing. For each of the two occupations of interest, all students will review the level of education required, salary information, hiring outlook, and other information regarding the career fields and write a paper including this information comparing and contrasting the two career fields of interest.

This textbook provides information on the practice of teaching special education in the secondary schools. Research-based practices are explained for supporting student functioning in language arts, math, and other content areas. Specifically, the eight chapters address: (1) Introduction to secondary special education; (2) Curriculum-based measures to inform learning; (3) Strategies for working in a co-teaching environment; (4) Strategies for improving student behavior; (5) Strategies to support post-secondary transition; (6) Strategies for improving student outcomes in reading; (7) Strategies improving student outcomes in writing; and (8) Strategies for improving student outcomes in math.

This open educational resource is focused on teaching the history of the colonial legacy of Residential Schools, with an emphasis on exploring the unique history of the Shingwauk Residential School which operated in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. This project builds upon decades of archival research and data collection, including the recording of oral histories, under the Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre’s (SRSC) mandate of ‘sharing, healing, and learning.’ ‘Realizing Healing and Reconciliation through Education’ is designed to increase the capacity of the SRSC to educate local, regional, and national audience about the history of Residential Schools.

This open textbook was the result of a remix of pre-existing open materials collected and reviewed by Molly Zhou and David Brown. Learning theories covered include the theories of Piaget, Bandura, Vygotsky, Kohlberg, Dewey, Bronfenbrenner, Eriksen, Gardner, Bloom, and Maslow.
