About me
Carla Zembal-Saul, Ph.D., is a former middle school science teacher from Houston who serves as the Co-Director for the Science 20/20 project. She holds the Kahn Endowed Professorship in STEM Education in the College of Education at The Pennsylvania State University (UP). Zembal-Saul’s research and practice is focused on designing coherent and consequential learning opportunities for professional educators and professional development providers. The learning opportunities she collaboratively crafts and studies are intended to assist educators in developing responsive and equitable approaches for engaging children in scientific discourse and practices, which is foundational to meaningful science learning. Zembal-Saul is heavily involved with the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA). She hosted two webinar series on teaching the NGSS in elementary grades and was recognized as a NSTA Fellow in 2015. She served on the committee that authored the report, Science Teachers’ Learning: Enhancing Opportunities, Creating Supporting Contexts (NAP, 2015).
