About me

My name is Hallie Stephen-Castro, and I am a Associate Professor of Nursing at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
I have over 35 years of experience in the nursing field, primarily specializing in Emergency Nursing. My journey in nursing began at 17 when I got my first job as a CNA. At 20, I got married and started a family. I continued my education and obtained my RN in 2000. Over the years, I have worked in various roles, including emergency services, med-surg, leadership, and corrections, which have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of nursing.

As a nursing professor, my teaching philosophy centers around student-centered learning, the application of knowledge, and integrating real-world experiences. I believe that every student has the potential to excel, and my goal is to create an engaging and supportive environment where you can develop your skills and knowledge.

I have four children, two step-children from the ages of 13 to 34, and two grandchildren. Outside of teaching, I am passionate about outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking, and kayaking. I find that these activities help me stay balanced and bring fresh perspectives into my teaching.
