PAD MAN - A Cross-curricular ELA and STEM Film Study

Students will know:

  • that technology advancement is often driven by profit, but the challenges faced by the majority of global citizens are basic need challenges of indigent populations.
  • that real-life problems are complex and are not sterile, controlled challenges found in a lab.  Compromises must be made to find solutions that are achievable, feasible, and reproducible.  
  • that trade-offs must be made with positive and negative effects when people consider using technology.
  • that the technological (engineering) design process will vary according to different cultural needs and norms.

Students will do:

  • author and present a slide presentation on STEM innovations and innovators
  • carefully watch and take notes on the film, "PAD MAN"
  • participate in collaborative discussions about social justice
  • write, revise, and publish an argumentative essay
