The students will collect and organize information on innovations in STEM fields.  Students must keep a running list of websites used for the presentation.

PAD MAN Film Viewing Note Taking

The students will take notes on the film as the film plays and during breaks for discussion.  Employ the Think-Pair-Share strategy when reviewing notes for students to collaborate and encourage them to delve deeper into the film.

Class Discussion on Social Justice

Lead the students in a discussion on social justice.  You can bring in other resources and tie in ancillary literature such as "Don't Take My Air Jordans" as performed by Lemon Andersen.  Review the URGE web page on tips for leading discussions on social justice.

Writing Process for Argumentative Essay

Assign the final assessment as outlined below.  Students should write their first draft and then use a grammar checking software, such as PaperRater.com, to evaluate their own writing and make corrections.

Students will then elicit feedback from two peers utilizing the Peer Editing form from Read Write Think:

Take your best guess:  What is innovation? 

Based on today’s discussion, what is an example of innovation?
