SHERPA/RoMEO

It is a tool using helping researcher in making the decision on self-archiving of their research output. RoMEO is a database, where the self-archiving policies of the publisher’s for the researcher academic output can be searched. The archiving could be web-based on the OA repositories. The present status of the RoMEO database includes 22000 scholarly journals (print, electronic and open access journals), and listed out 1480 no. of publishers sharing their self-archiving policies.  

The programme has been initiated by the University of Nottingham under their SHERPA project.

The JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) is a non-profit, United Kingdom-based company supporting the higher education and research and Wellcome a global charitable trust (UK) supporting scientists and researchers are the funding agencies for the SHERPA/RoMEO. 

Uses of RoMEO 

 It searches publishers copyrights related to the submission of research output in the institutional repository.

 The site classifies the publishers by colour-coding giving information on the level of author rights.

 Shows the compiling conditions of publishers with the funding agencies on open access.
