On April 18, 2023, #GoOpen held a public webinar titled, "Integrating OER into Instructional Initiatives."  The session featured Rebecca Henderson, Curriculum Services Supervisor, Westmoreland Intermediate Unit, PA; Tracy Rains, Virtual Learning Specialist, Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, PA; and, Kelly Hammond, OER and Open Pedagogy Adjunct, CUNY School of Professional Studies; and facilitator, Amee Evans Godwin of ISKME and the #GoOpen National Network.  

6.252J is a course in the department’s “Communication, Control, and Signal Processing” concentration. This course provides a unified analytical and computational approach to nonlinear optimization problems. The topics covered in this course include: unconstrained optimization methods, constrained optimization methods, convex analysis, Lagrangian relaxation, nondifferentiable optimization, and applications in integer programming. There is also a comprehensive treatment of optimality conditions, Lagrange multiplier theory, and duality theory. Throughout the course, applications are drawn from control, communications, power systems, and resource allocation problems.

This is a first course in project management, one in which students will learn the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be an effective project manager. They will learn how to plan, execute, and monitor a project. The course will cover the latest theories and concepts on scoping, stakeholder management, team leadership, budgeting and contracting, scheduling, quality control and assurance, and risk management. Students will have the option to apply their learning to a real-world project. 

This learning module (Lesson 3 of Unit 3) is part of a course called Project Management Fundamentals and may either be completed individually as a stand-alone topic, or part of a trio of learning modules on internal management, or as part of the course.

Kelly Hammond, Open Educational Resources (OER) and Instructional Technology Adjust at CUNY School of Professional Studies, talks about the importance of developing a strategic introduction to the OER-DEIA Action Plan for K-12 District Implementation that provides users with critical information that gives them a solid foundation when beginning their OER-DEIA journey.  As she developed this section of the guide she reflected on her own OER journey and asked herself the guiding question, "What would I have needed to know in order to get there faster and more comfortably?"

Tracy Rains, Virtual Learning Specialist at Appalachia Intermediate Unit, talks about developing two key components of the OER-DEIA Action Plan for K-12 District Implementation:  The Collaboration Plan and the Educator and Staff Professional Learning Plan.  She provides insight into why both of these sections are critical to the success of any OER-DEIA initiative.
