The lab will start off with some conversation starters having to do with numbers, each prompt has a quantitative aspect involved. During the main activity lab students will get to learn each other's experiences in other countries, focusing on country similarities.

This OER Lesson plan was created by Anita Saalfeld and reviewed by Chrystal Liu as part of the 2023 World Language OER Summer work and training. Educators worked with NDE staff to create OER Learning Plans and materials. The attached Lesson Plan is designed for 9 - 12 World Language teachers for students at Novice Mid to Intermediate Mid proficiency level in Spanish. Students will listen to a presentation on huipiles, answer questions embedded in the presentation, and then use what they learned to create their own weaving project. This Lesson Plan addresses the following NDE World Language Standard(s): NE WL 1.2, NE WL 2.1, NE WL 3.1, and NE WL 4.2.It is expected that this lesson plan will take students 1-3 days to complete.

In this activity, students will practice giving directions and observing public plazas from French speaking countries.

In this activity students will practice their listening comprehension skills by listening to popular French music. They will also practice sharing their opinions regarding music and describing the general message of a song.

This Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA) is designed to assess students at an intermediate proficiency level. It includes tasks to assess students in the three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational. Rationale: This activity will provide an alternative to traditional activities on French families offered in a lot of textbooks, and will get students engage with an authentic material: an excerpt from a contemporary Francophone “bande dessinée”. While some students may already know traditional Francophone comics such as Tintin or Astérix, this activity is here to provide them with a more recent and more diverse example. Aya de Yopougon is centered on a young female character growing up in Yop City, a fictional city very similar to writer Marguerite Abouet’s own native city (Abidjan, Ivory Coast). The “reading” phase of this activity is designed to encourage collaborative reading.

In this activity, students will have the opportunity to create a campaign commercial to run as the new president of Boise State. They will practice using vocabulary related to governments and actions that political figures take. Students will be able to discuss preferences relating to politics and government.

In this activity, students will be exposed to a variety of music genres and artists from the Spanish-speaking world. Students will work on becoming more informed about different types of music and backgrounds of various artists. Through listening to snippets of songs and a JIGSAW activity, students will collect information about a singer and share it with each other.

The SpinTX video archive provides a convenient web interface to search hundreds of short video clips from the Spanish in Texas Corpus. The collection includes hundreds of video clips culled from interviews of native and heritage speakers of Spanish living in Texas. Each video is accompanied by synchronized closed captions and a transcript that has been annotated with thematic, grammatical, functional and metalinguistic information. All materials available on the site can be freely used, copied, and distributed under a Creative Commons license.
