This sample shell is produced by the California Community Colleges CVC-OEI to support faculty in the use of Open Educational Resources and development of courses aligned to the OEI Course Design Rubric. The shell may be used for online, hybrid, &/or face-to-face classes. The shell is available for all faculty, not just those faculty in the CCC system. The team producing this shell includes Helen Graves, Liezl Madrona, Cyrus Helf, Nicole Woolley & Barbara Illowsky. If you are having challenges importing the shell, here are some steps to take. (1) Create an empty shell in your sandbox. (2) Import the Canvas Commons course into your shell. (3) Adapt the content as you wish. (4) If all else fails, contact your college IT person or Canvas administrator.

The Open for Antiracism (OFAR) Program – co-led by CCCOER and College of the Canyons – emerged as a response to the growing awareness of structural racism in our educational systems and the realization that adoption of open educational resources (OER) and open pedagogy could be transformative at institutions seeking to improve. The program is designed to give participants a workshop experience where they can better understand anti-racist teaching and how the use of OER and open pedagogy can empower them to involve students in the co-creation of an anti-racist classroom. The capstone project involves developing an action plan for incorporating OER and open pedagogy into a course being taught in the spring semester. OFAR participants are invited to remix this template to design and share their projects and plans for moving this work forward.

COCC has historically been operating at a reactionary vs. proactive response to digital accessibility. Creating a digital accessibility plan and hiring staff for this responsibility will hopefully turn this into a proactive versus a reactionary response for students with disabilities and all other individuals who would benefit.

One way of bridging the educational divide between girls/women and boys/men is by mainstreaming gender components into pedagogical delivery of instruction. There is a need for more awareness, knowledge and practice skill sets that help teachers reflect on their instructional practices. Teachers need to be cognizant of gender issues replete with students’ learning and how they can implement effective instructional pedagogies that mitigate gender bias. This article presents an instructional framework for gender-responsive collaborative learning and a resourceful tool for teachers to design gender-responsive collaborative learning environments that promote the achievement of all students.

About the Book
This peer reviewed e-book is a must-read for nurses and other health professionals who strive to teach with creativity and excellence in clinical settings. Each chapter presents current evidence informed educational practice knowledge. Each topic is also presented with text boxes describing ‘Creative Strategies’ that clinical teachers from across Canada have successfully implemented. For those who are interested in background knowledge, the authors provided a comprehensive literature base. And, for those interested mainly in ‘what to do,’ the text box summaries offer step-by-step directions for creative, challenging activities that both new and experienced instructors can begin using immediately.
The authors also address other issues familiar to clinical teachers. How do the theoretical foundations of teaching apply to clinical learning environments? How does one articulate a personal philosophy of teaching? How can clinical teachers support and socialize students towards becoming competent professionals? How can technology assist clinical instruction? What are the best methods of evaluating student progress in clinical ‘classrooms?’ What can preceptors do to promote student success? By considering these and other concerns, and by providing the kinds of practical strategies that can begin to resolve them, this open educational resource will be invaluable to clinical teachers from a variety of different disciplines and health care settings.
