ClimateSim is a fast and simple climate modeling and simulation tool. It is a web app that is freely available to anyone interested in climate science. ClimateSim allows users to model scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions in the current century and simulates the first-order response of the earth system. ClimateSim makes climate simulation accessible in a simplified form and provides an easy-to-use simulation platform for performing virtual climate experiments. ClimateSim is primarily targeted as a science education tool for undergraduate and advanced high-school students in physics, environmental science and related courses. Instructors can use ClimateSim to illustrate climate-change concepts, demonstrate dynamic relationships between climate variables, and assign simulation-based exercises as part of their courses. It is also an appropriate and accessible tool that policymakers, journalists and others can use to get a better understanding and working knowledge of the basics of climate science.

As a traditional Native American consultant and spiritual teacher; Mr. Redhouse will use the traditional “Circle of Life” to explain how we can maintain personal balance that will create harmony in our community. Within that circle of life there are four directions representing the four aspects of our human life and the seasons of energy that can create completeness. In our journey around our circle; we will experience transitions in our chronological age; relationships and careers that will teach us about ourselves. Having healthy beginnings will set the foundation for how all of our seasons will continue to progress peacefully in our lifetime. The one constant “heartbeat” that allows us to flow through each life transition smoothly is called love. From the time of our birth; relationships will be the constant tools that will teach us about who we are and how we can interact with others and experience harmony. In modern society we have experienced division; conflict; fear and confusion because we have strayed from the simplicity of this heartbeat called love; that unites; heals and guides us to our truth.

Students evaluate coal leases to determine their potential for coal mining. Each company, student group, has three leases and an exploration budget. Students design and implement an exploratory drilling program on each lease and collect partial borehole cores. Using the resultant data, each company creates geologic cross-sections for each lease as well as structural contour maps. Based on their geologic models, they recommend, in oral and written reports, on which, if any, of these leases the company should pursue and how the extractable coal seams might be recovered.

Coalbed methane (CH4) is a natural gas and valuable energy resource that occurs in coal beds. This site, hosted by an energy development corporation, explains the geology and stratigraphy of Wyoming in the context of the formation of coalbed methane and its occurrence in Wyoming. Maps, cross sections, stratigraphic columns and fence diagrams are provided to explain Cretaceous and Tertiary coalbed methane-plays in Wyoming.

This seminar examines the history and legacy of the Cold War on American science. It explores scientist’s new political roles after World War II, ranging from elite policy makers in the nuclear age to victims of domestic anti Communism. It also examines the changing institutions in which the physical sciences and social sciences were conducted during the postwar decades, investigating possible epistemic effects on forms of knowledge. The subject closes by considering the place of science in the post-Cold War era.

This course is designed for the student in science, electronic technology, or a health profession such as physical therapy. Subject matter covered will include: principles of mechanics, concurrent forces, nonconcurrent forces, friction, elasticity, motion, forces and motion, work and energy, power, impulse and momentum, and simple harmonic motion. A non-calculus approach.

Short Description: Ten general chemistry semester one lab exercises testing the topics of measurement, light and energy, stoichiometry, solubility, metals activity, calorimetry, and gas behavior.
Long Description: This lab manual was designed as an inclusive lab experience covering scope and sequence for the first semester general chemistry course at the College of Western Idaho. It includes hands on activities and prompts writing and data processing associated with varied general chemistry topics following an atom’s first approach and including measurement, light and energy, stoichiometry, solubility and activity, calorimetry, and gas behavior. The manual also includes a calculation and statistical analysis appendix, sample reports, and a guide to writing reports. Each lab in the sequence is organized with pre-lab questions, a safety overview, an historical and chemical background and lab instructions as well as lab reporting instructions.

This is a PBL project that had students build a "collision contraption" to be used as the basis for understanding the concepts of impulse and momentum. It was specifically designed to help students increase their depth of knowledge of impulse, momentum, and the differences in energy and momentum conservation between elastic and inelastic collisions. The project required students to design, build, and then use as a basis to prove their applied mastery of impulse and momentum, a contraption that would accurately predict the 2-dimensional motion of colliding objects, as well as to demonstrate the value of modern automobile design features in terms of safety. Note that the project was designed and delivered per the North Carolina honors Physics curriculum and it can be customized to meet your own specific curriculum needs and resources.

Students will observe how potential and kinetic energy relate to the transfer of energy from one marble to another when they collide. Students will introduce different variables (mass and height) and investigate the transfer of potential and kinetic energy in a sled collision online simulation. Students will build a ramp, test it, and measure the distance their cars travel caused by the collision. Students will create a presentation to share their findings with the class. This lesson results from the ALEX Resource Gap Project

Investigate collisions on an air hockey table. Set up your own experiments: vary the number of discs, masses and initial conditions. Is momentum conserved? Is kinetic energy conserved? Vary the elasticity and see what happens.

As a continuation of the theme of potential and kinetic energy, this lesson introduces the concepts of momentum, elastic and inelastic collisions. Many sports and games, such as baseball and ping-pong, illustrate the ideas of momentum and collisions. Students explore these concepts by bouncing assorted balls on different surfaces and calculating the momentum for each ball.
