Welcome to Criminal Law II, a journey through the law of constitutional criminal procedure. This publicly available casebook is a substitute for a textbook you would otherwise purchase through the University bookstore. It contains the cases you are to read for each unit. The cases have been elided, so portions represented by blue ellipses are not required reading. You are nevertheless more than welcome to click the dots to read through the entire case.

One of the purposes behind Criminal Law II, as taught in the undergraduate department of Criminal Justice, is to explore and define the concept of "good police." Credit is owed to Det. Jimmy McNulty of The Wire, who embodies crucial aspects of good police.

This lesson is for high school students (usually sophomores-seniors).  It can be adapted for middle school.Each student participates in a Job Shadow Day experience.  This was originally adapted from the National Groundhog Job Shadow Day.  Job Shadow experiences provide students with real-life experiences at jobs that match their career interests.  The day can be ½ day or full day, depending on school policy, distance to travel, transportation to and from and other logistics for the students to attend.

In this lesson students will explore the idea of irony in modern day memes and use this to create their own ironic meme related to The Crucible.

In this problem-based learning module, students will raise awareness about the amount of excess food wasted each day in America’s schools highlights the consumptive mindset that our county has.  Each day in third world countries, as well as our own, children go without the proper nutrition needed to focus on other activities. This module will raise student awareness about the amount of food taken from the service line and then placed in waste receptacles.  Students will gather and analyze data regarding wasted food in an attempt to design a solution to reduce food waste. Sation rotation will allow to conduct research into the global problems associated with the lack of food and malnutrition. Mathematical skills will be required to calculate rates and percentages of consumption which will be used for analysis.  

In this task students construct and compare linear and exponential functions and find where the two functions intersect. One purpose of this task is to demonstrate that exponential functions grow faster than linear functions even if the linear function has a higher initial value and even if we increase the slope of the line. This task could be used as an introduction to this idea.

In this lesson plan, students will create informative presentations using Canva on a topic of their choice or assigned by the teacher. They will learn how to use Canva’s design tools to create visually appealing slides that effectively convey their message. Once their presentations are complete, students will present their work to the class, practicing public speaking and communication skills. This activity combines creativity with technology and enhances students' ability to organize and present information.

Literature, the Humanities, and Humanity attempts to make the study of literature more than simply another school subject that students have to take. At a time when all subjects seem to be valued only for their testability, this book tries to show the value of reading and studying literature, even earlier literature. It shows students, some of whom will themselves become teachers, that literature actually has something to say to them. Furthermore, it shows that literature is meant to be enjoyed, that, as the Roman poet Horace (and his Renaissance disciple Sir Philip Sidney) said, the functions of literature are to teach and to delight. The book will also be useful to teachers who want to convey their passion for literature to their students. After an introductory chapter that offers advice on how to read (and teach) literature, the book consists of a series of chapters that examine individual literary works ranging from The Iliad to Charles Dickens’ Bleak House. These chapters can not substitute for reading the actual works. Rather they are intended to help students read those works. They are attempts to demystify the act of reading and to show that these works, whether they are nearly three thousand or less than two hundred years old, still have important things to say to contemporary readers.

As a continuation of the theme of potential and kinetic energy, this lesson introduces the concepts of momentum, elastic and inelastic collisions. Many sports and games, such as baseball and ping-pong, illustrate the ideas of momentum and collisions. Students explore these concepts by bouncing assorted balls on different surfaces and calculating the momentum for each ball.

Using plastic straws, wire, batteries and iron nails, student teams build and test two versions of electromagnets one with and one without an iron nail at its core. They test each magnet's ability pick up loose staples, which reveals the importance of an iron core to the magnet's strength. Students also learn about the prevalence and importance of electromagnets in their everyday lives.

The Kindergarten Elementary Framework for Science and Integrated Subjects, Wild Weather, uses severe storms as a phenomena for exploring natural and man-made hazards and staying safe in those conditions.  It is part of Elementary Framework for Science and Integrated Subjects project, a statewide Clime Time collaboration among ESD 123, ESD 105, North Central ESD, and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Development of the resources is in response to a need for research- based science lessons for elementary teachers that are integrated with English language arts, mathematics and other subjects such as social studies. The template for Elementary Science and Integrated Subjects  can serve as an organized, coherent and research-based roadmap for teachers in the development of their own NGSS aligned science lessons.  Lessons can also be useful for classrooms that have no adopted curriculum as well as to serve as enhancements for  current science curriculum. The EFSIS project brings together grade level teams of teachers to develop lessons or suites of lessons that are 1) pnenomena based, focused on grade level Performance Expectations, and 2) leverage ELA and Mathematics Washington State Learning Standards.
