SYNOPSIS: In this lesson, students investigate how artists use their platforms to spread awareness about climate change.

SCIENTIST NOTES: This lesson encourages students to think about how artists and their art can be used to teach and inspire others about climate change. Many videos are included in the slideshow. Videos include one of Sarah Lewis, an art historian discussing how one person’s artwork can shift things, and a second one featuring “Earthrise,” a poem by Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. There are an additional six videos covering artists and their artwork about climate change. This lesson finishes with great reflection questions and an opportunity for class discussion. This would be a great lesson for teaching the effects of art on the public perception of climate change.

-This lesson has significant cross-curricular possibilities, even though it focuses on art and artists.

ADDITIONAL PREREQUISITES:
-This is lesson 1 of 3 in our 9th-12th grade Climate Heroes unit.
-This lesson should follow a basic introduction to climate change science, exploration of global and local impacts, and climate change solutions.
-Some prior knowledge of contemporary art practices is useful, but not required.

DIFFERENTIATION:
-Teachers can provide instruction multimodally.
-Teachers can modify the assignment and assessment as needed.
-Teachers can follow up with questions to ensure comprehension.
-Teachers can pair students with helpful peers.

This 5th grade STEM Storyline Unit from Washington Educational Service District 112 is focused around Climate Justice, Over five NGSS aligned lessons and using the 5E model, students are presented with the ideas of environmental stewardship and restoration.

A collaboration between TED Countdown and Fine Acts, Artists for Climate started as a global open call that sought digital illustrations targeting climate change, with a focus on hope and solutions.
The artworks you see here have been published online under a Creative Commons license and are available for anyone to use and adapt non-commercially, to help shift the global narrative of the climate crisis towards a brighter future. This hopeful collection is an invaluable resource and tool for educators and organizations from around the world, working towards climate action.

The primary goal of these resources and programming, created as part of a larger initiative to expand climate justice education at MIT, is to provide support to faculty members and instructors across disciplines in integrating climate justice content and related instructional approaches into their courses.

The Toolkit houses a wide range of climate-justice-adaptable teaching modules, a starter guide for teaching climate justice, resources for students, and climate justice data sets that can serve as supportive tools to enhance teaching content and approaches.

The book "All We Can Save" is an anthology of writings by women at the forefront of the
climate movement who are harnessing truth, courage, and solutions to lead
humanity forward. This Creative Commons licensed collection of educator resources includes a discussion question bank, various assignments, summaries of each essay in the book, and other resources.

This course consists of 4 modules and is designed  to help government, professionals in multiple disciplines and community organizations understand the fast-emerging field of natural asset management.

Nachhaltige Digitalisierung ist eine Digitalisierung, die sich einbettet in die Werte und Normen der Gesellschaft sowie die planetaren Grenzen beachtet. Um zur Umsetzung von nachhaltiger Digitalisierung beizutragen, hat die Volkshochschule Bonn im Rahmen der Learning City Bonn ein modular aufgebautes Weiterbildungsangebot für die DozentInnen entwickelt und stellt es Volkshochschulen und anderen Einrichtungen der Weiterbildung zur Verfügung. abei ist die Kernfrage: Wie können Dozent*innen unterstützt werden, Aspekte einer nachhaltigen Digitalisierung zu beachten und zu vermitteln? Wir verstehen dabei nachhaltige Digitalisierung als Querschnittsthema, das mit unterschiedlichen Schwerpunkten je nach Kurs und Format zur Anwendung kommen kann. Dozent*innen werden sowohl als Weiterbildungsakteure sowie als Multiplikator*innen angesprochen. Adapting to a changing climate will involve governments, businesses, societies and other organizations with diverse perspectives, mandates and capacities. Project managers, through their effective direction of complex projects, occupy a critical role and must ensure that their projects consider the implications of a changing climate. This course will help you recognize climate change factors that could affect successful outcomes for your project and formulate strategies you can use to address them.  You can expect to leave this course better prepared to add a climate change lens to your project planning.

Our group questioned the actions and behaviors taken by communities and individuals to participate in solving the environmental issues of life on land, life below water, water and sanitation, and climate action. We did this through personal observations and collection of data monitored by photographs within the different environments and communities, both the city and outside the city. 

Purpose of UnitThe purpose of this Climate Science NTC Project GLAD® unit is a call to action, providing equity of access for all students. Through a model of instruction that promotes language development within core content, the Voices of Hope unit teaches students the science behind climate change and equips them with the tools necessary toward making a positive impact on our planet. This unit was written for 4th - 7th grade.

This artist book is an extension of the The Art for Science Mural project, located in Columbia, Missouri and funded by the 2018 Art for Science Rising initiative of the Union of Concerned Scientists. The book consists of a recreation of the mural design in coloring book format, and a workbook which can be used to create an asset map of a given locale’s sustainable resources so that readers can make conscious choices about how they use the assets within a given community. It is meant to be an educational and information gathering tool that is open source (with a copyleft license) and where the collection of this information is decentralized.

The McLuhan quote suggests we must all do the work, and be responsible, in the care for our one and only home. One way that this work can be done is collating and sharing information about the available sustainable resources in a given area.
