One way of bridging the educational divide between girls/women and boys/men is by mainstreaming gender components into pedagogical delivery of instruction. There is a need for more awareness, knowledge and practice skill sets that help teachers reflect on their instructional practices. Teachers need to be cognizant of gender issues replete with students’ learning and how they can implement effective instructional pedagogies that mitigate gender bias. This article presents an instructional framework for gender-responsive collaborative learning and a resourceful tool for teachers to design gender-responsive collaborative learning environments that promote the achievement of all students.

This page contains information, recordings, and transcriptions materials that I collected during two research trips to Bolivia and Peru. The common theme for these trips was Indigenous voices and representation. Here, I visited indigenous groups as well as had different discussions and presentations with different academics and social activist in these two countries. I hope that the information and materials here are helpful to everybody that visit this page. Click on the links below to access the materials per country. If you use any of this information for a class, please feel free to share your lesson plan with me so that I can post it. In this way, other instructors/teachers/professors can also use these materials. The goal is to make all of these materials and lesson plans accessible.

This course is an introduction to modern Indian culture and society through films, documentaries, short stories, novels, poems, and journalistic writing. The principal focus is on the study of major cultural developments and social debates in the last sixty five years of history through the reading of literature and viewing of film clips. The focus will be on the transformations of gender and class issues, representation of nationhood, the idea of regional identities and the place of the city in individual and communal lives. The cultural and historical background will be provided in class lectures. The idea is to explore the “other Indias” that lurk behind our constructed notion of a homogeneous national culture.
