The Group Dynamics of a School Project was developed in order for students to learn about group dynamics through acting out the roles of five diverse post secondary students trying to complete a group project. Key elements of group dynamics are portrayed including conflict, leadership skills, groupthink, group climate, microaggressions and more. Each scene contains a short script to be read out loud, a prompt for improvising an ending, discussion questions, and key takeaways. Students come away with a better understanding of the theories behind group dynamics, increased self awareness, and a better understanding of other group members.

Interpersonal Communication: A Mindful Approach to Relationships
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

0.0 stars

Interpersonal Communication: A Mindful Approach to Relationships helps readers examine their own one-on-one communicative interactions using a mindfulness lens. The writing team of Jason S. Wrench, Narissra M. Punyanunt-Carter, and Katherine Thweatt incorporates the latest communication theory and research to help students navigate everyday interpersonal interactions. The 14 chapters in this book cover topics typically taught in an undergraduate interpersonal communication course: family interactions, interpersonal dynamics, language, listening, nonverbal communication, and romantic relationships, as well as exploring emerging areas such as self-compassion, body positivity, friendships, and “the dark side”. The writing takes on a purposefully informal tone to engage readers. Each chapter is broken into different sections that have unique instructional outcomes, key takeaways, and exercises, and concludes with real-world case studies and sample quiz questions. Also included is an extensive glossary with over 350 definitions.

Listening with Power (from Theory)

Listening is the least emphasized mode of communication. As such, it deserves a more thorough treatment. Upon scanning the OER landscape to determine existing opportunities to learn about listening, it was discovered most are devoted to the practical skills of listening. However, much can be learned by learning about the theories and research of listening. Therefore, this module is intended to serve as either a stand-alone learning module on listening or a more advanced module that can be added to other more practically-oriented modules. This module introduces students to academic study of listening and treats listening as a thriving sub-discipline (of interpersonal communications) that can be explored from an academic perspective. It provides sufficient references and resources that can be examined more thoroughly and perhaps even built out into an entire course or mini-course on listening.Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:DEFINE listening using theoretical developments. (Bloom 1)CLASSIFY effective listening practices by affective, behavioral, or cognitive processes. (Bloom 2)USE theoretically-based listening practices to improve communication. (Bloom 3)DEVISE a personal listening strategy based upon theory. (Bloom 4)This module has eight sections: Overview, Engage, Explore, Explain, Evaluate, Elaborate, Express, and Extend.
