During this lesson, students will learn more about their favorite authors by researching them on the Internet and presenting to the class, school, and community. Students will learn biographical information about their authors, the inspiration behind their stories and identify their authors’ different styles of writing.
This lesson focuses on the essential question: How do I harm the environment? As students listen to the story, The Wump World, read aloud, they will identify ways the environment was harmed. Students will make connections to other texts read in this unit and write about ways they could help the environment.
This guide provides student-driven projects that can directly teach subject area standards in tandem with foundational understandings of what AI is, how it works, and how it impacts society.
Instead of simply learning about AI through videos or lectures, the students completing these projects are active participants in their AI exploration. In the process, students work directly with innovative AI technologies, participate in “unplugged” activities that further their understanding of how AI technologies work, and create various authentic products—from presentations to designing an AI robot—to demonstrate their learning.
• Project 1: What AI Does Well and Does Not Do Well
• Project 2: Training Data and Machine Learning
• Project 3: Senses vs. Sensors
• Project 4: Navigation and AI

Through a study of the moon, students will be guided through an inquiry process using primary sources to learn how we shape our understanding of the past (history). They will also learn how new discoveries and observations change our perceptions over time, as each succeeding generation creates knowledge and adds new technology. Students will then pose their own questions to wonder how future discoveries or new technology might change our understanding of the world and our universe.
