The first published account of the theorizing that was involved in the development of John M. Keller’s ARCS model is contained in a 1979 publication entitled Motivation and Instructional Design: A Theoretical Perspective. At that early stage, Keller explains his working definition, “motivation is generally defined as that which accounts for the arousal, direction, and sustenance of behavior” (Keller, 1979, p. 29). The emergence of Keller’s model was heavily influenced by a research into a variety of underlying motivational constructs. This open textbook is adapted from OpenStax’s Anatomy and Physiology for Carmen Bott’s KINS 1100 (Biodynamics of Physical Activity) class at Langara College. Sections have been omitted from the original textbook to reflect the KINS 1100 curriculum, but the content is otherwise unchanged.

There are sections for you to read, there are videos offered in most chapters, and there are quizzes embedded with the book. As with most books, this one is designed to be used both in the classroom as well as out in the field. Your resources should be available for your reference as experiences in the field do not follow you into the classroom, and vice versa.

The discourse around academic integrity has become more prolific and robust, and the nature of, as well as what constitutes academic misconduct has expanded and continues to evolve as the landscape of education and technology changes. Current examples of misconduct behaviours include but are not limited to: copying answers during an assessment, claiming another person’s work as one’s own, unauthorized collaboration, having another person complete an assessment, unauthorized use of online platforms to complete an assessment, purchasing a completed assessment, and falsifying results from experiments.

This book is a compilation of open source resources to be used in an Engineering in Society course. Jennifer Kirkey started this work in the summer of 2018. She teaches physics and astronomy at Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia, and works closely with the engineering program there.

Our goal in writing this text was to provide a comprehensive overview of the diverse and broad field of forensic psychology, including applications in both the criminal and civil legal systems, with a focus on the Canadian experience. The core topics include forensic assessment in the criminal and civil domains, treat- ment, children and juveniles in the legal system, eyewitness testimony, police and police investigations, jury decision making, and correctional psychology.

The aim of the course has always been a practical one. We want to give students practice in performing the commonest techniques in molecular biology and genetic engineering as well as providing a good basic understanding of how the techniques worked. Though you won’t be doing the wet lab part of the course this semester, you will get some experience via simulations and other “lab exercises” and you will get plenty of experience in planning and designing constructs to answer biological questions. Part of our aim is to prepare students for a career in genetic engineering and this hasn’t changed.
