Developed for the second grade. A biodome is a self-sustaining habitat for plants. Students will make a biodome in a recycled soda bottle and watch as their seeds grow. Floor construction is the most serious activity in the building process serving as the main link between sub- structure and super-structure. Apart from the foundation, the floor of the building serves as the most immediate support for super-structure. The loads of the walls and columns and imposed loads are first transmitted to the floor before reaching the foundation concrete. The inability of a floor to support the above loads and onward transmission will indicate the ineffective nature of the whole building. The Design Process is a modern approach to the teaching of practical skills in schools, colleges and universities. It is sometimes called Product Design. In this course learners will learn how to define the Design Process and explain the framework of design. This course discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the design process and it illustrates the design process diagrammatically. It explains problem identification techniques and discusses ways of analysing products to be designed. This course explains the problem of depletion of energy resources. The making of curtains and wall hangings has now become a specialized area for interior decorators whilst the production of mattress has also become another specialized area. Unlike small scale furniture firms for which the whole process of stuffing a chair could be done by one person, in large industries were mass production is practiced the process of upholstering is broken down into different stages such that one person rarely complete the whole task of making the furniture piece. The process of making an upholstered furniture piece can be broken into: frame construction installation of webbing and springs installing padding installing muslin and final covering making of cushions channelling and tufting.
