This activity is revised for a face-to-face K-12 classroom, although it is most appropriate for secondary (middle school and high school) levels. I added layers to the warm-up and cool-down and the entirety of the activity could easily last one full (50 minute) class period or be divided into two classes. The entire activity is contextualized as an authentic performance task where prospective students go on a virtual “university campus tour”.

Students will also learn about the geopolitical divisions in France.

Students will work with simple Fairytale character vocabulary and descriptions of them (Prince--charming, Snowwhite-beautiful, etc.) preparing them to work next with more in-depth vocabulary in the form of a Fairytale infographic.  The infographic contains several charts, descriptions and information pertaining to the top 10 most popular Gebrüder Grimm Fairytales for students to discover after preparing first with a pre-reading activity to front-load the vocabulary they will encounter in the infographic.

Students will discuss their preferences and defend and support their ideas. Students will exchange opinions on a variety of topics through a game of bingo. This activity was revised for a high school Heritage Spanish Speakers class. One of the goals with this class is for students to be able to articule and defend their point of view, even when it is abstract. By adding an intercultural compononent to this activity, students will go beyond themselves and explore the perspectives of their classmates.

Interpretive pre and post activities help students expand their language competency.

Students warm-up with 2 videos that we interpret and discuss as a class. Students then read a news article (A reads a different article then B) and identify the most important information from the article. A and B partner to talk about what they read and ask/answer questions about the others' article. Students then record a short, live report on the article they read.
