Film Festival Assignment (Video Competition)
A script helps students determine the exact scenery, wording, and actions for a particular scene. A script will be the main template for the actors and editors as they create the film. The script for this project can be as detailed or not as detailed as the students’ desire, but the more details, the better organized students will be to prepare for shooting. This is also an opportunity to make sure all students are agreed about decisions and direction for the film. Instructors can have students turn this assignment in person or on Blackboard. It is a good idea to give students feedback about their scripts including letting them know if an idea is too broad, too vague, or needs any adjustments.
Assignment:
Students should create a script for each group using the template below. Students should outline the main idea of the story and include lines for each of the actors/actresses. Remember this is really a way of organizing your film to help with filming. Students should focus on the following:
- Where is each of the scenes occurring, even if they are not that particular location? For example, students might use a classroom as a dorm room.
- What do each of the actors or actresses say? (Some of the best lines are brief, i.e. “Use the Force” “Beam me up Scotty”, etc.)
- Who are your actors or actresses? Any student or person can be in the film, not just the group members
- How are the actors or actresses feeling for that scene? Confident, sad, happy, excited?
- What is the main story for the film?
- Any ideas for music can also be generated on the script.
