This activity aligns to a unit about food and is designed for intermediate students. Students read an article, then answer comprehension and personal reflection questions.

This word document is intended to be used as an assessment for elementary students conducting biography research.  It is a document that mimics a Facebook page and the students use the information they have found while conducting research to populate the various fields.  They also have the opportunity to create conversations that this famous person would have had with his/her contemporaries that can demonstrate whether or not the student understands the actions and intentions of the character that have explored.

This annotated list is intended to provide teachers links to resources that can be used to teach digital citizenship and other technology related concepts and skills. Link to Evaluating Reliable Sources lesson from Teaching Tolerance. Lesson focuses on locating and verifying online resources. Students learn to locate and evaluate sources and compare multiple resources about the same topic.

This session is meant to engage participants in discussions around the evaluation of open educational resources (OER) and the practice of using rubrics to access OER. The participants will compare resources by content using rubrics to evaluate their effectiveness.

Students will read and analyze a short story from the Southern Gothic genre entitled "The Life you Save May be Your Own" by Flannery O'Conner.  They will continue to explore the ideas of human compassion and morality by examining the apparent  lack of compassion in the characters of Mr. Shiftlet and the old woman, Lucynell Crater.  Students will use close reading strategies to identify examples of indirect characterization that contribute to their analysis of these two central characters in the text. Image source: "Mockingbird" by skeeze on Pixabay.com.

In 2016, Oxford Dictionaries chose "post-truth" as the word of the year. As literacy has shifted from published hardcopy to an online landscape, it is more important than ever to engage and empower students in navigating the complicated battleground of fake news verses responsible, fact-based news. In this multi-day lesson, students will 1) examine terms associated with “fake news” and evaluate sources for their reliability and authenticity, and 2) develop a set of norms for responsible use of online news sources that spans academic and personal interaction with media.Cover image: "Fake news" by pixel2013 from Pixabay.com

This is a tiered interpretive listening activity. It aligns to an intermediate-level unit about family. All students watch the same video and answer the same questions, with three levels of support for students at different proficiency levels.

This activity allows novice level students to capture family member vocabulary while listening to a song. Attached lyrics can be used as a clos activity. This aligns with novice low to mid interpretive listening proficiency goals.

This activity aligns to a unit about families. Students read several infographics about Mexican families and record information on a handout. This activity is designed to be open-ended in order to accommodate students of various proficiency levels.

This is a novice level activity. Students listen to an authentic song in Spanish and identify familiar vocabulary of family members. The link is to a YouTube video and the document is a cloz version of the lyrics.

This interpretive listening task aligns with a novice-level unit about families. This task is tiered by complexity of product (how students show what they know). Level A is given the most support, while level C is given the least support. An answer key is provided.
