During the Spring 2020 semester, I taught this wonderful group of ESL learners in the classroom and on Zoom after the pandemic hit. This OER is a collection of resources, teaching ideas, and student artifacts about that experience. I hope it helps you. If you have questions, or just want to brainstorm, feel free to email me at <mike.mutschelknaus@rctc.edu>.

This faculty and librarian toolkit is designed to support teaching at the intersections of scholarly communication and information literacy. The heart of the toolkit is a choose-your-own scenario activity which can be used in a flipped classroom setting or in a traditional classroom. The choose-your-own scenario activity is inspired by and adapts questions from: Hare, S. & Evanson, C. (2018). Information privilege outreach for undergraduate students. College and Research Libraries. http://crl.acrl.org/index.php/crl/article/view/16767. Please note the survey questions are provided below, however, the survey skip logic is not included in the PDF, we recommend the link for the full experience. We also include talking points for librarians and instructors and include ways to modify the activity for students publishing information within their disciplines or for lower-division general education courses.

The resource introduces the audience to the OER Service as well as the university’s efforts to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of its resources. By looking at and together analysing three already published OER (all listed below), learners are taught what points to keep in mind as they are creating their own resources. The resource is available as a video and in transcript format with PowerPoint slides embedded.

This resource is a collaborative effort and was created for Geoscience Outreach students to practice considering the accessibility, inclusivity, and OER suitability of their created resources. It was originally run as a workshop by Open Content Curator Interns Molly Wickett and Alyssa Heggison in 2022, and has now been adapted for sustainable use as a video with accompanying transcript by an Intern August Enger in 2023.

Active Participation: Using Math Templates
Read the Fine Print
Rating
0.0 stars

Using math templates during instruction keeps each student actively involved and allows the teacher to informally assess each student's proficiency with the skills and concepts addressed in the day's lesson. Many teachers regularly use whiteboards to have students record answers, write terms, draw pictures, etc. The use of templates in sheet protectors extends this practice and eliminates the time spent drawing diagrams, etc., allowing students more time to demonstrate mathematical proficiency. Teachers who regularly use math templates include planned task items that assess student proficiency. Careful observation of student responses allows teachers to form flexible small groups for additional instruction or enrichment and also better plan for instruction.
