The Census Flows Mapper is a web mapping application intended to provide users with a simple interface to view, save and print county-to-county migration flows maps of the United States. The data are from the 2006-2010 American Community Survey.

The goal of the Data4Kids project is to help educators prepare children to be better data users, stewards, and consumers. With support from the South Big Data Hub, the Urban Institute and its partners have created a set of tools and resources to help teach kids in primary and secondary schools about data, data science, and data visualization in a virtual environment.

These "Data Stories" are designed to assist educators in supporting students’ data science learning, and can be allow educators to freely used across a variety of grades. Each story is a starter kit for educators at different levels–grades 3-5 (Band 1); grades 6-8 (Band 2); or grades 9-12 (Band 3).

Each Data Story includes an Instructor's Guide, Data (available in Microsoft Excel, CSV, and Google Sheets formats), a Data Dictionary to describe the data values in each story (available in Microsoft Word and Google Doc formats), and Teaching Slides (available in Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides formats).

This lesson incorporates sea surface data collected by NASA satellites. Data for three surface characteristics- height, temperature and speed- are used for several activities. Students examine the differences in speed of currents relative to distance from the Equator. Sea surface data anomalies are charted and further analyzed. In addition, surface current data is presented to examine patterns related to El Niño. Note that this is lesson three of five on the Ocean Motion website. Each lesson investigates ocean surface circulation using satellite and model data and can be done independently. The Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology and Environmental Teratology Information Center (DART/ ETIC) Database is made available by the National Library of Medicine's Toxicology Data Network. The database contains over 100,000 current and earlier literature citations covering teratology and other aspects of developmental and reproductive toxicology. Users may search the database by subject, title words, chemical name, Chemical Abstracts Service Registry Number, and author. The Web site also includes a useful help page and sample record for familiarizing oneself with the database.

This reference tool allows students to identify an arthropod's order by making a series of guided decisions, such as six legs or more, well-developed or missing wing, and chewing or sucking mouthparts. The key, which includes only adult arthropods, is available as an interactive key on the AMNH's Web site that can be downloaded to your computer.

Movement of ions in and out of cells is crucial to maintaining homeostasis within the body and ensuring that biological functions run properly. The natural movement of molecules due to collisions is called diffusion. Several factors affect diffusion rate: concentration, surface area, and molecular pumps. This activity demonstrates diffusion, osmosis, and active transport through 12 interactive models.

In 1999, the University of Chicago began the Digital Dictionaries of South Asia (DDSA) to make electronic dictionaries of South Asian languages available to the public for free. It includes languages from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Gary Tubb, Professor and Chair of the Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations (SALC), and James Nye, former University of Chicago Library Southern Asia bibliographer and COSAS Emeritus, were awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Education that allows them to expand these digital dictionaries to include Kashmiri, Panjabi, Persian, Sindhi, Sinhala, Telugu, and Urdu languages. James Nye is a CAORC Multi-Country Research Fellowship alum, who traveled to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, and India on the fellowship.

This contribution is modified from a published exercise "Directed Discovery of Crystal Structures Using Ball-and-Stick Models" [Mogk, 1997] . While the published exercise is based on student exploration of traditional ball-and-stick models of crystal structures, this modified version uses a similar "discovery-based" approach to teach the spatial relationships and crystal-chemical rules that govern the crystal structures of common minerals and crystalline solids, but instead uses the latest web-based crystallographic information and visualization programs. A few changes in the content have been made from the published exercise, mainly to accomodate the new digital media.
