Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) is a national resource for exclusively social-emotional support. Founded in 1981 following the suicide of a gifted student attending the University of Michigan, the late James T. Webb. Unique to other resources presented, SENG offers a mental health provider directory and local parent groups, Seng Model Parent Groups (SMFG), listed by state. Facilitators who run the SMFG meetings support and guide parents through discussion groups as they struggle to parent their complex children.Three membership options are available: $99.00/annually, $12.00/monthly, or $12.00 trial membership. Membership carries many perks, ranging from discount codes to online support groups and conferences and more, as well as free subscription to SENGVINE. Supporting emotional needs of the gifted. Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC), a cross-cutting initiative of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, works to train students and facilitate research to assess the broad challenges and opportunities associated with computing, and improve design, policy, implementation, and impacts.
This site is a resource for SERC pedagogical materials developed for use in MIT courses. SERC brings together cross-disciplinary teams of faculty, researchers, and students to develop original pedagogical materials that meet our goal of training students to practice responsible technology development through incorporation of insights and methods from the humanities and social sciences, including an emphasis on social responsibility.
Materials include the MIT Case Studies Series in Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing, original Active Learning Projects, and lecture materials that provide students hands-on practice and training in SERC, together with other resources and tools found useful in education at MIT. Original homework assignments and in-class demonstrations are specially created by multidisciplinary teams, to enable instructors to embed SERC-related material into a wide variety of existing courses.
The aim of SERC is to facilitate the development of responsible “habits of mind and action” for those who create and deploy computing technologies, and fostering the creation of technologies in the public interest.

In this activity, learners use a chemical reaction to visualize where moisture forms on the body. Learners use the Minor's iodine-starch test, a diagnostic test that doctors use to detect hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), to identify where moisture is forming. Learners also use this method to test the effectiveness of different antiperspirants.

Teach in Spanglish

Teach in Spanglish is founded on a simple idea: while just a small fraction of today’s college students will progress to the high-level, all-in-Spanish courses offered by language departments, more than two-thirds enter college with the ability to understand Spanish when given context in English, support from their instructor, and time.

Over nearly a decade in the classroom, our team has shown that students who took Spanish for at least two years in high school, at least one year in college, and/or who were raised in a bilingual environment (Spanish as a Heritage Language speakers, or SHL) can, with proper support, engage in high-level analysis of Spanish and Spanglish primary sources and original texts, utilizing insights from linguistics to both structure the classroom experience and guide students in their engagement.

The teach in Spanglish website links to a form that allows instructors to request access to a free Canvas site that contains instructor facing videos, quizzes, and other modules to help get started teaching in Spanglish.

Teaching Philosophy through feature film clips
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted

0.0 stars

This website is a tribute to the intellectual curiosity of young people. We know that they have
questions about all the big ideas that have engaged philosophers throughout the ages. What they
don’t have is a way to discuss those questions with other people, especially in an educational
setting.
That’s where you come in! By using this website, you’ll provide your wonderfully intelligent
and boldly inquisitive students with the opportunity to engage in a range of philosophical
discussions about issues that other students their age have told us were the most pressing ones in
their lives.
You may be wondering how you can do this without having any philosophical training. You will
be relieved to discover that teaching philosophy to secondary school children does not involve
giving lectures on the great philosophers of the past or the central problems of Western
philosophy. What is does require is that you commit yourself to giving your students the
opportunity to discuss philosophical questions among themselves.
We have tried to make this as easy for you as possible. We have created webpages devoted to
different philosophical issues that students have told us they want to discuss with their peers. On
each page, you will find a variety of different film clips. At the end of each clip, questions for
discussion appear on the screen. If you just pause the clip, you or a student can read the question
out loud to begin a philosophical discussion.
Your role is to facilitate that discussion, not tell the students what to think about anything; your
role is to assist students so that they can have a productive discussion with one another. For even
though children may be natural-born philosophers, they are not born ready to discuss issues with
their peers. That’s what we hope to help them with on this site.
Because “all” that the teacher has to do is to assist the children in their philosophical discussion,
it doesn’t require any special philosophical knowledge to teach philosophy to secondary school
children. All you need to know is how to facilitate a discussion among your students and, of
course, how to navigate this website so you know how to get to the material you need when you
need it!
