TNTP's Kristen McQuillan and Regan Kelly share how important it is to adopt a high-quality curriculum. But... what happens after that? What should be considered as next steps? LOTS of fabulous answers and ideas, grounded in research and experience.

Students are presented with a brief history of bridges as they learn about the three main bridge types: beam, arch and suspension. They are introduced to two natural forces tension and compression common to all bridges and structures. Throughout history, and today, bridges are important for connecting people to resources, places and other people. Students become more aware of the variety and value of bridges around us in our everyday lives.

Secondary educators across Lebanon County, Pennsylvania developed lesson plans to integrate the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards with the content they teach. This work was made possible through a partnership between the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board (SCPa Works) and Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) and was funded by a Teacher in the Workplace Grant Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. This lesson plan was developed by one of the talented educators who participated in this project during the 2018-2019 school year.

The Children’s Hour has produced a six part podcast and curriculum series on the history of the American Southwest, in partnership with the Center for New Mexico Archaeology, the Native American Community Academy (NACA), NACA Inspired Schools Network, and numerous others.Typically a region of the US that is overlooked in textbooks, the Southwestern United States history begins 23,000 years ago in what is now know as White Sands National Park.  Students will learn how the area was settled, from its Indigenous beginnings through the brutal era of Colonization by Spain, and then the United States, and finally emerging into statehood. This series highlights the moments that changed the history of this region and this nation forever.The series comes with a free, download-able Learn-Along Guide that meets and cites US national education standards for elementary through high school students. Our production began with “virtual field trips” for students that include expert interviews to better understand each time period. Carbon fiber reinforced concrete (CFR) is a type of concrete that is made up of carbon fiber strands which are embedded in the concrete. This makes the concrete stronger as well as more resistant to damage. CFR is often used in areas where durability and strength are important, such as bridges and buildings.

Extensive teacher guidance videos and planning documents fill this design guide for culturally responsive units aligned with the Washington learning standards in Environmental Science and Sustainability.

This classroom lab is a guided practice for inquiry using brine shrimp as the subject to be investigated.

Bristol Tennessee City Schools has just over 4,000 students enrolled among five elementary schools, a single middle school, one brick-and-mortar high school, and a virtual high school. The district’s free and reduced lunch rate is just over 53%, with the rate at some of the four Title I schools significantly higher.

The British Library’s collections on Flickr Commons offer access to millions of public domain images, which we encourage you to explore and re-use. The release of these collections into the public domain represent the Library's desire to improve knowledge of and about them, to enable novel and unexpected ways of using them, and to begin working with researchers to explore and interpret large scale digital collections.

The first set we have added come from a British Library Labs project dubbed the Mechanical Curator, which located more than a million images from within our digitised collection of over 65,000 books from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Over time more public domain collections will be added.

This lesson is about the historical processes leading up to the British North America Act of 1867 and Canadian Federation. Aboriginal Peoples’ contributions to Canadian history have been underrepresented, sometimes wholly ignored, in textbooks and K-12 schooling. This lesson aims to have students discover and reflect on these contributions, which will reorient Canadian history.This lesson will be for students in grades 7, 8 or 9.Pedagogical Approach:This lesson will incorporate the Question Formulation Technique, as well as the K-W-L process (what we already KNOW, what we WANT to know, what we have LEARNED).Learning Objectives:a. Practice using cause and effect reasoning to determine how events are related and why they occurred.b. Become familiar with key historical events and activities, and the different parties involved.c. Reflect on why Aboriginal contributions have been underrepresented in “official” accounts of Canadian history.
