In this activity, students make and manipulate physical shoreline models to discover the features of resilient shorelines and to critically evaluate the impacts of rising seas. Students will use NOAA's Sea Level Rise Viewer to observe a coastal area of interest and predict the consequences of sea level rise on people, the environment, and the economy. Though the curriculum references North Carolina, this lesson will work for all coastal areas.

This resource contains several mini-explorations using a slide projector as a light source to investigate light and the properties of images. These activities can be used as a class demonstration or as learning stations. This guide also includes information about the "anatomy" of slide projectors and how they work. Learners and educators are encouraged to "tinker" with the equipment to find the best conditions and methods. Note: the cost of the projector is not included in the total cost of materials.

This is a PBL project that used the North Carolina Gravity Games as the basis for students to understand the concepts of work and energy. It was specifically designed to help students increase their depth of knowledge of work, the conservation of energy, power, and the work-kinetic energy theorem. The project required students to design, build, and then use as a basis to prove their applied mastery of work and energy, a working "gravity car" that was tested locally, with the top three entering in the state-wide Gravity Games competition in Lenoir, NC. Note that the project was designed and delivered per the North Carolina honors Physics curriculum and it can be customized to meet your own specific curriculum needs and resources.

Problems in nuclear engineering often involve applying knowledge from many disciplines simultaneously in achieving satisfactory solutions. The course will focus on understanding the complete nuclear reactor system including the balance of plant, support systems and resulting interdependencies affecting the overall safety of the plant and regulatory oversight. Both the Seabrook and Pilgrim nuclear plant simulators will be used as part of the educational experience to provide as realistic as possible understanding of nuclear power systems short of being at the reactor.
