STUDENT ACTIVITY -- 4TH -- CCSS/NCThis is a distance-learning lesson students can complete at home. The student will identify characteristics of myths. They will create their own myth to explain a natural phenomenon.This activity was created by Out Teach (out-teach.org), a nonprofit providing outdoor experiential learning to transform Science education for students in under-served communities.

Students whose first language is not English reflect on nature through readings, a visit to a green area, and bookmaking using the writing process and peer feedback.

Students learn how newspapers got started, what components are necessary for creating a good newspaper, and what is included in the basic structure of a news article.  They will examine historical newspapers from several eras and then compare them to today's newspapers.  Students will then take on the role of a journalist and write a news article about a hot topic or current event.

Students will use the outdoor space to generate opinions and facts about the space which they will use to write about how the space should be used.

This is the third day in a longer unit. Students will use two informational texts two analyze the theme of racism, especially in the context of interracial marriage and apply those concepts to Act I, Scene i of Othello. This lesson was created by Kristi Bose and is designed for Grade 9 English Language Arts students. Each student will analyze the theme of racism in Othello as a starting point for a discussion about racism in today’s society. This Remote Learning Plan addresses the following NDE Standard: NE LA 10.1.5d, NE LA 10.1.6d,  10.1.6i, 10.1.6.n, and NE LA 10.1.6o.

Because Shakespeare’s works were meant to be performed, students will be introduced to Shakespeare’s language in general and the plot and themes specifically of Othello through quoting lines. This is an introduction to a longer unit. This lesson was created by Kristi Bose and is designed for Grade 9 English Language Arts students. Each student will memorize one key quote from Othello, build background knowledge about Shakespeare’s language including iambic pentameter, and make predictions about the plot and themes of the play. This lesson plan addresses the following NDE Standard: NE LA 10.1.5c, NE LA 10.1.5e, and NE LA 10.1.6l.Approximate time: 50 minutes

Film study of historical fiction film, Pad Man: a fictionalized account of the quest of a real-life social entrepreneur from India who ultimately used the engineering design process to reverse-engineer series of mini-machines to manufacture affordable sanitary pads for women.

Los estudiantes de primer grado escuchan la lectura de un libro de cuentos ilustrado, van a una caminata en la naturaleza y leen un cuadernillo que presenta información que les sirve para su propia historia. Luego se les invita a escribir sobre como es ir a visitar un bosque. También pueden visitar un bosque cercano. Cuadernillo de lectura que acompaña la tarea de desempeño.

Los estudiantes miran un video, leen el cuadernillo y usan su experiencia propia para escribirle a sus amigos, una carta con informacion que contesta la pregunta: "¿Qué es un estuario y qué lo hace tan especial?" Cuadernillo de lectura que acompaña la tarea de desempeño.

Los estudiantes leen un articulo, miran un video y toman notas de estos dos recursos de los que aprenden sobre contaminación del agua pluvial y como prevenirla. También aprenden la frase "que no baje agua sucia al drenaje" y escriben un ensayo para informar a otros estudiantes sobre la importancia del agua limpia para tener peces sanos.

Los estudiantes leen un articulo, miran un video y exploran una guía de campo de bolsillo y luego responden tres preguntas de investigación. Después, conducen un inventario biológico (bioblitz) y escriben un ensayo explicando lo que es un inventario biolgico o bioblitz.

Diseñado para proveer informacion básica sobre energía renovable incluyendo qué es, cómo funciona y las ventajas y desventajas para el ambiente. Cada tarea de desempeño enfoca en un tipo de energía renovable, incluyendo información básica y con suficiente información para escribir ensayos de persuasión. La tarea de energía renovable y no renovable culmina con un discurso. Los maestros cuentan con una rúbrica para calificar el discurso como pracita del SBAC. Se proporciona una plantilla para preparar los discursos.

Los estudiantes de tercer grado leen un artículo y miran un video sobre cómo empezar una hortaliza. Toman notas de estas dos fuentes y escriben un ensayo de información para explicarle a otra clase cmo empezar su propia hortaliza. 

Students in the 1st grade are asked to write stories about what it is like to take a walk in the woods. Students will listen to a picture book, watch a video, and read a booklet to give background knowledge for their stories. You may also use information from your own walks in the woods! Includes reading booklet.

Designed to provide basic background knowledge about renewable energy including what it is, how it works and the advantages and disadvantages for the environment. Each task focuses on a type of renewable energy, including basic background knowledge, career information, and a variety of print and video resources. Students practice the research skills of locating information, selecting the best information and having enough information to explain or persuade. Renewable and Non-renewable Energy, culminates in a speech. Teachers are provided with the SBAC Speech rubric for scoring the student presentations. A template is provided for planning speeches.

Students at grade K are asked to write stories about what it is like to visit a pond or a lake. Listen to a picture book, go on a nature walk, and read a booklet to give information for a story. You will also visit a local pond or lake! Includes booklets: one for the pond and one for the lake.
