This course will survey physics concepts and their respective applications; it is intended as a basic introduction to the current physical understanding of our universe. In this course, the student will study physics from the ground up, learning the basic principles of physical law, their application to the behavior of objects, and the use of the scientific method in driving advances in this knowledge. This course focuses on Newtonian mechanics--how objects move and interact--rather than Electromagnetism or Quantum Mechanics. While mathematics is the language of physics, the student need only be familiar with high school-level algebra, geometry, and trigonometry; the small amount of additional math needed will be developed during the course. Short Description: Within these pages, Constance Hodder's poems explore the inner self in context to the physical world.
Long Description: Within these pages, Constance Hodder finds her voice in poems written that explore inner self often in context of the the physical world. Living out in rural Minnesota surrounded by nature, she weaves this imagery into the fabric of her poetry. Sometimes her poems revisit the past to look closely at life’s strengths as well as it’s fragility; sometimes they take a humorous or fanciful look into her present time in life. In all her poems, she takes the reader into her world of where life remains precious though sometimes difficult.

The Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–Powerplant (FAA-H-8083-32B) is one of a series of three handbooks for persons preparing for certification as a powerplant mechanic. It is intended that this handbook provide the basic information on principles, fundamentals, and technical procedures in the subject matter areas relating to the powerplant rating. It is designed to aid students enrolled in a formal course of instruction, as well as the individual who is studying on his or her own. Since the knowledge requirements for the airframe and powerplant ratings closely parallel each other in some subject areas, the chapters which discuss fire protection systems and electrical systems contain some material which is also duplicated in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Handbook–Airframe (FAA-H-8083-31B). This handbook contains an explanation of the units that make up each of the systems that bring fuel, air, and ignition together in an aircraft engine for combustion. It also contains information on engine construction features, lubrication systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, cylinder removal and replacement, compression checks, and valve adjustments. Because there are so many different types of aircraft in use today, it is reasonable to expect that differences exist in airframe components and systems. To avoid undue repetition, the practice of using representative systems and units is carried out throughout the handbook. Subject matter treatment is from a generalized point of view and should be supplemented by reference to manufacturer's manuals or other textbooks if more detail is desired. This handbook is not intended to replace, substitute for, or supersede official regulations or the manufacturer’s instructions. Occasionally the word “must” or similar language is used where the desired action is deemed critical. The use of such language is not intended to add to, interpret, or relieve a duty imposed by Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR).

SYNOPSIS: In this lesson, students learn about habitats and how plants, prey, and predators interact based on their needs. Students see how factors like warming temperatures and human interactions can alter habitats and affect wildlife.
SCIENTIST NOTES: This lesson clearly demonstrates the interrelationships existing in an ecosystem. It allows students to identify species and analyze what they need to survive in a given habitat accounting for the impact of human-caused climate change on biodiversity. The games, activities, and all materials featured in the lesson have been reviewed and are suitable to improve students' understanding on the topic. On that account, this lesson has passed our science credibility process and is recommended for teaching.
POSITIVES: -This lesson illustrates the interactions of living things in a habitat through student interactions. -This lesson features kinesthetic learning to activate interest in the topic. -In this lesson, students get the chance to receive feedback from peers, reflect on their work, and make changes to their work based on feedback and personal reflection. -This lesson features speaking and writing practice using academic language.
ADDITIONAL PREREQUISITES: -This lesson is 1 in 3 in our Number Sense & Biodiversity unit. -A large area is needed for the game. If the classroom is used, you may want to move desks to one side of the room.
DIFFERENTIATION: -During the Inquire section, students could be given a list of animal names or pictures to check off as they appear in the video. -Species cards include pictures of animals for students who have more difficulty reading. -Cause and effect language frames are differentiated. -Teacher may wish to play a "fishbowl" version of the game and have students watch a few students play to see the interactions.
