Biology is designed for multi-semester biology courses for science majors. It is grounded on an evolutionary basis and includes exciting features that highlight careers in the biological sciences and everyday applications of the concepts at hand. To meet the needs of today’s instructors and students, some content has been strategically condensed while maintaining the overall scope and coverage of traditional texts for this course. Instructors can customize the book, adapting it to the approach that works best in their classroom. Biology also includes an innovative art program that incorporates critical thinking and clicker questions to help students understand—and apply—key concepts.

This course was developed to satisfy the California Commission of Teaching credentialing requirements for teacher candidates. The class provides opportunities for candidates to learn how to teach the basic and essential fundamentals of physical education for K-6th grade students. The central knowledge is about children’s motor skill development along with the emotional and social aspects related to physical activity. Teachers will learn the key aspects of a physical education lesson, which include a warm-up activity, the lesson plan (skill development and game applications), and closure. As a total lesson, at least half the time is spent in moderate to vigorous activity.

The course also addresses classroom management techniques, safety and liability, kinesiology, and instructional techniques. It incorporates discussions of multicultural aspects and special needs populations, and concludes with ideas for integrating physical education with academic subjects such as mathematics, language, and natural and social sciences.

Exploration of the connection between personal choices and health across multiple dimensions of wellness. Focus on personalized behavior change strategies to advance health. The purpose of this course is for adults to advance their personal health. People generally have a good sense about what to do to be healthy, but actually doing it consistently is another matter. Because of this challenge, behavior change theory is applied throughout this course to engage students and evoke health-related change. By the end of it, we want students to be healthier than they were at the start and we want them to have an understanding of how to continue advancing their health throughout their lives.

This resource is a video abstract of a research paper created by Research Square on behalf of its authors. It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Climate change may negatively impact cold-water fish while benefiting their parasites. That is the finding of a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Münster. An important biological question regarding climate change is how ecological and evolutionary dynamics will be altered in the face of temperature shifts. Climate change is expected to impact many species -- and parasites are no exception. But few studies have conducted empirical tests to determine precisely how environmental changes will affect host-parasite dynamics. To provide insights into this, a team of researchers conducted an experiment involving three-spined sticklebacks, a tapeworm parasite, and varying water temperatures. Sticklebacks -- and the tapeworms that infect them -- occupy a wide environmental range, making this an ideal system for studying such interactions..."

The rest of the transcript, along with a link to the research itself, is available on the resource itself.
