Sons et lettres provides a set of classroom materials to train students to hear and produce the sounds of French and to recognize the regular spellings used to represent those sounds in print. The materials are inspired by a desire to help students feel more confident about their French pronunciation and more at home saying the many French words, familiar and unfamiliar, which they encounter in their studies, in French media and in their travels. In our experience, students are not given sufficient preparation to successfully decipher and pronounce French words. These materials are intended to fill that gap and to clear away the confusion that English speakers often feel when they see French words with seemingly mysterious combinations of letters.

A Google Drive of resources created by Donna Gillespie & Bonnie Loder for SPANI 2251-Conversation and Composition I and SPANI 2252-Conversation and Composition II at the College of DuPage. It presents a scaffolded approach to writing that includes helpful resources such as peer review exercises, grading rubrics, and instructor resources. A Blackboard shell for each course will be shared with all Language faculty on the shared team site.  These .zip files are also importable into Canvas and other open Learning Management Systems.

Unlike traditional reference grammars, each topic is explained using authentic video examples from the Spanish in Texas project. This OER Spanish Invitation was created by Danielle Fulcher and as part of the 2024 World Language OER Summer work and training. Educators worked with Chrystal Liu, Nick Ziegler and Dorann Avey to create OER Learning Plans and materials. The attached Lesson Plan is designed for 9 - 12 World Language Arts teachers for student learning of Mid Novice Learners of Spanish. Students will write their own invitation to an event. After writing their invitations, they will do an interpersonal activity in which they extend invitations to their classmates. This activity addresses the following NDE World Language Standard(s): NE LA 12.1.6b, NE LA 12.1.6l, and NE LA 12.1.6oIt is expected that this activity will take students 90 minutes to complete.

Students will practice recognizing family member terms (i.e. abuela: grandma), describe family members, and accurately use vocabulary related to families in Spanish. They will acquire information about another individual’s family and will practice describing their own and others’ family members.

In this activity, students will talk about a vacation they would like to take and engage in conversation about traveling. Students will learn words relating to traveling and taking a vacation. They practice speaking to each other about planning a vacation. Students will also express personal opinions and thoughts about their vacation and hotel.

In this activity, students will share their preferences based on likes and dislikes. Students will discuss their preferences on multiple different topics to include activities, food, clothing, items, etc, using complete sentences.

In this activity, students will survey one another to determine how much their classmates like/dislike certain foods. 

In this activity, students will use vocabulary to describe what they eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Students will also be able to identify whether or not the meal is nutritious and healthy. Students will learn more about how to describe food and health. Students will also learn more about reading and understanding nutrition facts. 

In this activity, students will discuss Spain's New Year's 12 grape tradition, going on dates in their own city, and their own holiday traditions. This activity could be modified from focusing primarily on the L1 culture to the L2 culture in order to integrate more culture into the activity. This activity is more conversation-based and less culture-based, though it does discuss some Spanish traditions.

Students will discuss the environment and their favorite ways to get around and things to do outside. Students will also be able to compare and contrast between transportation options in both their hometown and Spanish speaking countries.

Students will talk about future careers and how to interview. They will discuss several interview questions and styles through different scenarios with a partner. In this activity, students will learn how to share their interpretations on artwork from the Spanish-speaking world. They will discuss art and express their opinion with a partner or in a group. Students will answer questions across different time frames (past, present, future).

In this activity, students will have the opportunity to create a campaign commercial to run as the new president of Boise State. They will practice using vocabulary related to governments and actions that political figures take. Students will be able to discuss preferences relating to politics and government.

In this activity, students will be exposed to a variety of music genres and artists from the Spanish-speaking world. Students will work on becoming more informed about different types of music and backgrounds of various artists. Through listening to snippets of songs and a JIGSAW activity, students will collect information about a singer and share it with each other.
