Understanding Ratios

Unit Introduction

Ratios are everywhere around us whether we realize it or not. Understanding and applying ratio concepts is a life skill and job skill that will benefit any learner. The goal for this unit is to provide learners with a working knowledge of ratios that they can apply to their everyday lives, education, or occupation.

Instructor Facilitation Directions

Each module contains Student Printable Materials, as well as online access to all of the content. All of the modules may be completed by the learner with or without access to technology. If the learner is not using a computer, the Student Printable Materials are available at the top of each module page. Some of the files are lengthy, so you may want to print out multiple pages per sheet. If the learner is using a computer, they can access the PowerPoint files within each individual module. Also, if a  learner is using a computer, you will need to print out a copy of the Student Handouts for them to record their answers on activities.  One thing the facilitator must be aware of is that there are multiple activity options for the learner in Modules 2 and 3. Before the student begins Module 1, you must provide them with their choices and and record their choices. Once they choose one lesson for each of the two modules, they should begin Module 1. Specific directions for facilitating and assessing learning are below in the Instructor Materials Link. This unit has been created in a way to allow the learner to be self-directed and the instructor to focus on assessment and directing the learner on the correct path. The lesson path is shown below in the flow chart.
