Execution of the mock trial is the capstone of the learning modules which comprise this website. The instructor needs to function as a true sideline coach, both in the efforts leading to the trial as well as when the trial is executed. Knowing how the end goal, the trial, should flow the instructor should be effectively leading participants to prepare for the trial. Corp. includes understanding of the role of the character they are training, becoming proficient in the profession of the character and being able to communicate the characters opinion clearly in a court of law using whatever exhibits that best tell the story. The mock trial will execute more effectively if they trial attorney or actual court judge can serve the role of the mock trial judge. These persons experience will be invaluable to the trial's authenticity and effectiveness of the learning effort. If someone from the legal profession serves as a judge, it would help the overall effort for the instructor and a person to coordinate continually during the pretrial activities.

Long Description:
This manual will provide straightforward “how to” instruction on how to be an advocate for change in public health policy. By providing actual steps that students can take to make a difference, it will be a beginner’s guide to individual and grassroots activism. Additionally, it will include how to professionally employ modern tools, such as social media platforms, in their advocacy endeavors.

This modern approach to activism is crucial: most advocacy manuals focus on traditional forms of outreach, such as in-person lobbying, letter-writing campaigns, public group demonstrations, and phone banking. Thus, most manuals fall short of the tools that literally lie at the new generation’s fingertips: social media. In light of movements such as Black Lives Matter, which took place largely online amidst a pandemic, this manual informs students how to educate themselves and others of a cause as well as take direct action—all from the comfort and safety of home/wherever they charge their phone. By using accessible language for novice public health activists, the manual also intends to break down the barriers of intimidation students may face when they are not yet fully immersed in public health/political jargon.

Other publications/textbooks are costly and/or not available through Amazon and mainstream bookstores and are therefore, inaccessible. Furthermore, these textbooks are dense and lengthy, intimidating students who are just yet beginning their journey in public health activism. While most manuals available currently focus on in-person lobbying scripts and formal letters-to-the-editor, this manual adapts to students’ pandemic lifestyle in an age where Twitter and TikTok are viewed more regularly than a newspaper–all while referencing traditional sources.

While the manual intends to reach a broad audience of diverse backgrounds, it will still draw from formidable sources and leaders in the field of advocacy work and public health, such as Martin Luther King Jr. , Paulo Freire, and Eugene Bardarch. Incorporating their pedagogies in simple digestible form will hopefully encourage students to further explore the larger works available from this historical groundbreaking leaders and minds.

Finally, while this manual is aimed towards students in the field of public health, it is relevant to a broad and diverse audience. The logic and tactics presented in this manual are applicable to a wide range of fields and purposes.

Natural justice is technical terminology for the rule against bias (nemo iudex in causa sua) and the right to a fair hearing (audi alteram partem). While the term natural justice is often retained as a general concept, it has largely been replaced and extended by the general "duty to act fairly".

The Claremont Colleges Open Education advocacy guide for student leaders

Short Description:
For students, the high cost of educational resources and textbooks can be a serious obstacle to the accessibility and affordability of a post-secondary education. For instructors, traditional educational resources may also present a barrier to innovation in teaching and curriculum design. Fortunately, open educational resources (OER) provide a viable solution to both these issues. OER can be accessed for free online or printed at a fraction of the cost of a traditional textbook, and can be edited to better fit the curricular or pedagogical goals of an instructor.

Open Judicial Politics

Rating

Short Description:
The impetus for this volume was a multitude of conversations regarding pedagogy and teaching related to our judicial process courses. Based on these conversations, we identified four main threads or needs of our colleagues: First, many of us bring or want to bring more “political science” into our classes, though we also want to avoid the high costs of reinventing successful existing courses to do so. Second, our programs all require a political methodology course, and we want to reinforce those lessons in our substantive courses. We want to encourage our students’ understanding of how to read and understand research studies as well as how to craft their own research questions. Third, we want to keep our courses as current as possible. And fourth, we wanted to find a way to bring the cost of our courses down, as we see so many students struggle with the high costs of a college degree. This volume (as well as any future editions) addresses each of these concerns. Data Dashboard

This week, Stan teaches you about patents. It turns out, they're patently complicated! So, patents have some similarities to copyright, in that they grant a limited monopoly to people who invent things. The key difference between patents and copyright is that patents are for THINGS. Copyright is for an idea. So, if you've come up with a great new invention, like for example, a condiment gun, you should get a patent. We'll also talk about some of the limitations and problems of patents, including patent trolls

Procedural Law

Fundamentals of Procedural Law provides a concise overview of the foundations of the law of Criminal Procedure in the United States.

This book uses what has been called the “text-case” method. The text part (this book) explains the general principles, practices, and issues related to the law of criminal procedure. The case part (Fundamental Cases in Procedural Law) consists of excerpts from Supreme Court criminal procedure cases, specially edited for nonlawyers. The case excerpts provide you with real-world encounters among criminal suspects, defendants, and offenders on one side and law enforcement officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and judges on the other. The excerpts show you how the general principles apply to the details of actual situations, stimulating you to think critically about how the general principles and practices apply to day-to-day criminal justice administration.

Safe Sport: Critical issues and practices
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

Short Description:
Combining research and practice with regard to safe sport, this book offers current and insightful commentary that addresses athlete voices, governance, human rights, legal issues, coaching, and officiating perspectives. Comprised of 18 chapters from 21 contributors across academic and professional realms, it offers comprehensive and open-access safe sport information for individuals and organizations within all levels of the sport system.

Long Description:
This edited book addresses a critical provincial and national sport sector issue – safe sport. Organizations within all levels of the sport system are currently facing crises in relation to safe experiences. It is imperative that comprehensive and open-access safe sport information be made available to students and instructors. Comprised of 18 chapters from 21 contributors across academic and professional realms, the book offers current and insightful commentary that addresses athlete voices, governance, human rights, legal issues, coaching, and officiating perspectives. Leveraging the Brock University Centre for Sport Capacity 2021 Safe Sport Forum’s diverse team of experts and attendee discussions, the edited book combines research and practice in safe sport. These themes are integrated with “from-the-field” cases, application exercises, and interactive multi-media to support students and instructors across a wide-range of disciplines, programs, and courses.

In this resource, athletes are the main priority. This edited book applies various perspectives to address the harassment and abuse of athletes, and the lack of administrative action in these instances which have been highlighted in recent cases in the media and the courts. Most importantly, the chapters acknowledge that the long-term negative ramifications of a failure to ensure safe sport for athletes at all levels of the Canadian sport system is a significant issue that requires discussion and action. Moving forward, sport leaders must make decisions to ensure the athlete is top-of-mind.

This edited book also offers a summary of where we currently stand in this safe sport movement, and an important perspective on what steps need to be taken next to put the words of the Universal Code of Conduct to Address and Prevent Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) into action. This resource offers ways to counter current challenges of the existing sport structure, to commit to safe sport values, and to enact these values through policies and programs. One resounding theme the authors have communicated in their own unique way is that safe sport requires effort from a variety of stakeholders at every level of the sports system. In other words, the safe sport movement requires support from coaches, sport officials, administrators and governing bodies, volunteers, athletes and participants, health professionals in Integrated Support Teams (ISTs), the legal system, parents and guardians, and more. Together, we can make safe sport possible.
