Students explore their outdoor space for information about what is growing in their garden. Depending on the season and region, teacher may use a different fruit or vegetable to discuss. They then research fruits and vegetables growing in the garden and report the health benefits of these foods.

Case studies are used to examine these complex relationships and as well as alternative approaches to achieving both local and global food security and the important role public health can play. Guest lecturers include experts from a variety of disciplines and experiences on various health products.

This module was developed at the School of Public Health, University for the Western Cape for the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health which was offered as a distance learning module between 2001 and 2008. Health Systems Research is an integral part of the vision for a quality, comprehensive, community-based, participatory and equitable system. This module aims to provide an introduction to the kinds of research conducted within a health system, the research designs and methods used, and how to develop a research protocol.

Melberg underlined that the things that the indicators for reproductive health are measuring are difficult to quantify. For example, the proportion of women with access to the family planning resources they need depends very much on a given woman’s status – married vs unmarried etc. She also highlighted that the process of defining indicators often impacts social processes, which then can become political issues, in turn generating social pressures.

Melberg stresses that concrete quantifiable data is lacking in this area, and measurements are not standardized. She concluded by mentioning the “elephant in the room – abortion”. Abortion is a significant cause of maternal deaths, but data is difficult to collect. She highlights the need to work towards gender equality and women’s health and rights.

This OER Lesson Plan Foods (Health) was created by Kelly Garcia as part of the 2024 World Language OER Summer work and training. Educators worked with Chrystal Liu, Nick Ziegler and Dorann Avey to create OER Learning Plans and materials. The attached Lesson Plan is designed for 9 - 12 World Language/ELL/ESL teachers for student learning of Mid-High Novice Learners. Students will evaluate and compare the elements of a healthy lunch and compare school lunches around the world. Students will also create their own school lunch plan based on healthy choices. The lesson plan is written in English for adaptation to any target language. Secondary educators across Lebanon County, Pennsylvania developed lesson plans to integrate the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards with the content they teach. This work was made possible through a partnership between the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board (SCPa Works) and Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) and was funded by a Teacher in the Workplace Grant Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. EHR planning need to identify and eliminate waste in processes that involve the use of EHRs to ensure positive outcomes before making large investments. Lean management in healthcare is a valuable tool way to meet this objective as it educates hospital executives, clinicians and staff to seek out and eliminate waste.

Implementing new technology can create more problems, and the results can be "bad," or worse, "ugly." It is imperative that healthcare executives understand the benefits and challenges of EHRs and what can be done to eliminate them.

Health management is considered an important skill area for Public Health professionals. The module covers three key management areas: people management, planning and resource management. Through exploring these areas, the module aims to provide information and assistance at a practical level, continually referring the student to management issues within their own context.Ę As management is cross-cutting in relation to other Public Health fields, the student is also expected to relate much of the management study material to the contexts of the other Certificate modules.
