Secondary educators across Lebanon County, Pennsylvania developed lesson plans to integrate the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards with the content they teach. This work was made possible through a partnership between the South Central PA Workforce Investment Board (SCPa Works) and Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) and was funded by a Teacher in the Workplace Grant Award from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. This lesson plan was developed by one of the talented educators who participated in this project during the 2018-2019 school year.

FREE career resources to identify active job openings, research related careers, and prepare in detail for careers and jobs of interest (all on one page).   

Jobs are in our area but who knows what's out there? Students will discuss, explore, research local community vocations. Utilizing their research they will create presentations and present a Career Fair.

As you plan and prepare for college, these checklists will help keep you on track throughout the process. The checklists highlight important aspects to focus on during each season of the year, including tips for both money and time management, and college and career planning.

What does it take to be successful in the workplace? This unit provides students with the opportunity to examine this question, evaluate what others say and form their own voice, and finally to express and share what they find. The materials are for the instructor and provide options to adapt to specfic students. learning needs,  and time frame.

This exercise is for an advanced writing and/or career ready class.
The research to be carried out can be done prior to the commencement of the Slideshow creation process, with the class teacher, or as part of the computer class, in which the Slideshow is created.

You will have to simulate a scenario where they have graduated and are preparing themselves for the workforce.They will be reflecting among themselves to identify the experiences, character traits, goals and objectives that are closest to them. They will use these items that they have identified and look towards creating an interactive medium. They will look for you on feedback to improve the interactive medium that they have created, to see if it's relevant to the learners or not. You will have to be familiar with the rapid growth of educational technology, these include platforms that will showcase the portfoliosPathbrite - An easy way of creating an E-Portfolio and placing your reflections and experiences into.About.me - This is an easy portfolio builder that acts as a start up page to link you to your videos or images. This course provides an exciting, eye-opening, and thoroughly useful inquiry into what it takes to live an extraordinary life, on your own terms. The instructors address what it takes to succeed, to be proud of your life, and to be happy in it. Participants tackle career satisfaction, money, body, vices, and relationship to themselves. They learn how to confront issues in their lives, how to live life, and how to learn from it.
A short version of this course meets during the Independent Activities Period (IAP), which is a special 4-week term at MIT that runs from the first week of January until the end of the month. Then this semester-long extension of the IAP course is taught to interested members of the MIT community. This not-for-credit course is sponsored by the Department of Science, Technology, and Society. A similar, semester-long version of this course is taught in the Sloan Fellows Program.

As many who entered the labor market following the Great Recession know all too well, graduating with a college degree does not mean you’ll easily fall into a good career. Four-year college graduates with entry-level jobs actually earned more in 2000 than they’re earning today and student loan debt burdens are higher than ever.

Does this mean you should skip college or drop-out? Not necessarily. Unemployment is still lower for those with undergraduate and higher degrees. However, understanding the economics behind the labor market will make finding a career a more manageable task.

The labor market in the United States has undergone many changes in the past few decades. Whereas we once had many manufacturing jobs that required little training or specialized skills, the labor market today demands more people who can work with computers and information technology.

Choosing a good career requires planning beyond getting a college education. You’ll want to carefully consider the career options available for your major, as well any specialized skills you’ll need to build outside of the classroom.

It’s also essential to understand how supply and demand affect your career options. How many people are also choosing that major vs. how many employers are looking for those skills? Is a particular career path susceptible to being replaced by a machine? What about outsourcing in the global labor market? What about laws and regulation – does it require an occupational license?

There’s a lot to think about! Choosing a career is a huge decision and understanding how supply and demand rule the labor market will help you better navigate your future.

It is very beneficial for the professional to increase the grades of competency and dedication due to the rising and changing demands of the business. They must know how they can handle the complex situations. Career education helps the students to build confidence, standard of performance and high quality personal development.
