This is my PBL about race in the court system and it's relation to themes in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. The PLB includes an outline for a presentation and discussion on cases that were influenced by racial bias throughout history and in present day America.

Storytelling is an effective way to communicate what is happening along our local-to-international coastal zones. However, most of the stories students hear are ones of "doom and gloom." Therefore, students are assigned to take storytelling to the next step and write/record energizing narratives that capture examples of adaptation and resilience along the coast.

The Read Arabic! Internet lessons were developed at the National Foreign Language Center (NFLC) at the University of Maryland primarily with high school students of Arabic in mind; however, the materials can also be used for those in college at the basic and intermediate level as well. The website assumes knowledge of the Arabic alphabet and how to read. In addition to lessons, the website includes a basic overview of the Arabic language in English, from its history to modern usage, and learning suggestions.

Because ESL Level 1 students may not all be at the same level, some of the readings may be too difficult for some students. However, the emphasis in these activities is to work on reading strategies for all levels of reading, both at the students' level and above it as well.This module can be combined with the others uploaded about grammar, teaching sentence structure, and writing activities to create an entire OER based ESL class for this level.
