Building Arduino Light Sculptures
Read the Fine Print
Educational Use
Rating
0.0 stars

Students are challenged to design their own small-sized prototype light sculptures to light up a hypothetical courtyard. To accomplish this, they use Arduino microcontrollers as the “brains” of the projects and control light displays composed of numerous (3+) light-emitting diodes (LEDs). With this challenge, students further their learning of Arduino fundamentals by exploring one important microcontroller capability—the control of external circuits. The Arduino microcontroller is a powerful yet easy-to-learn platform for learning computer programing and electronics. LEDs provide immediate visual success/failure feedback, and the unlimited variety of possible results are dazzling!

This video module presents an introduction to cryptography - the method of sending messages in such a way that only the intended recipients can understand them. In this very interactive lesson, students will build three different devices for cryptography and will learn how to encrypt and decrypt messages. There are no prerequisites for this lesson, and it has intentionally been designed in a way that can be adapted to many audiences. It is fully appropriate in a high school level math or computer science class where the teacher can use it to motivate probability/statistics or programming exercises. nteractive lesson, students will learn to build the cryptography devices and will learn how to send and ''crack'' secret messages.

Principles and foundations for the digital era

Short Description:
The book goes beyond the surface to explain why AECO digitization matters with respect to information. It presents information in the framework of representation, introduces a semantic typology of data and connects process to information management, towards a coherent and transparent theory of building information for the digital era.

Long Description:
Digitization in AECO is in a transitional phase. On one hand, technologies like BIM finally introduce symbolic representation and, on the other, there is an unhealthy and unproductive attachment to outdated, analogue practices and documents. The book goes beyond the surface to explain why digitization matters with respect to information. It presents information in the framework of representation, introduces a semantic typology of data and connects process to information management, towards a coherent and transparent theory of building information for the digital era.

For those learning about fair use, this is a specific example of how fair use may be used in research for text data mining. The book also explores basic copyright and fair use more generally, as well as the specifics of text data mining.
From the "about" section of the book:

"This book explores the legal literacies covered during the virtual Building Legal Literacies for Text Data Mining Institute, including copyright (both U.S. and international law), technological protection measures, privacy, and ethical considerations. It describes in detail how we developed and delivered the 4-day institute, and also provides ideas for hosting shorter literacy teaching sessions. Finally, we offer reflections and take-aways on the Institute."

Business communication also happens across channels. We have come a long way as the human race in terms of the channels we use to communicate with each other. With the development of language, much of communication was oral, with humans passing knowledge and information to other humans through the mouth. Sometimes we would use actions, whether through body language or through the use of other methods, such as smoke signals. However, most of communication was restricted to oral communication. With the invention of writing, we had yet another channel of communication, which turned out to be a little more permanent than speech. Information could now be recorded for posterity and knowledge could be passed down from father to son without the loss of accuracy.
