The mission of the Center for Advanced Research on Language Aquisition (CARLA) is to study multilingualism and multiculturalism, to develop knowledge of second language acquisition, and to advance the quality of second language teaching, learning, and assessment. Some of the ways in which the center aims to achieve this mission is by conducting research and action projects in order to share research-based forms of knowledge.

The goal of the Center for Applied Second Language Studies at the University of Oregon is to improve the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Similar to other language resource centers, CASLS creates language learning and teaching materials, offers professional development opportunities, and conducts research on foreign language learning.

The Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language and Literacy (CERCLL) at the University of Arizona is one of the 15 Language Research Centers established across the nation under Title VI of the U.S. Department of Education. CERCLL researches culture, language and literacy with less commonly taught languages. The center also strives to provide educators with teaching resources and opportunities for their professional development.

This course is the intermediate level of the streamlined curriculum, which is intended for students who, when they began streamlined I, had some background in the language, whether it be comprehension with limited speaking ability or quite fluent speaking ability. The focus of the course is on standard pronunciation and usage, on reading in both complex and simplified characters, and on writing. It is presupposed that students in Chinese III have already learned the pinyin system of representing pronunciation sufficiently well to be able to read texts in pinyin accurately. (If not, there are pinyin tutorials to assist you to learn the system.)

The Classroom Oral Competency Interview (COCI) exam tests for listening and speaking skills and is offered for any language. The exam can be administered to students in 6-12th grade as well as in college. The length of the exam is 5-7 minutes. The exam consists of a face to face interview and the result reported is a proficiency level.

The Classroom Writing Competency Assessment (CWCA) exam tests for writing skills and is offered for any language. The exam can be administered to students of all proficiency levels in 5-12th grade. The exam was designed to provide teachers with indicators of increases in student writing competency. Students produce a writing sample following a given prompt, which must be created based on the following format: context, text, function, and content.

This site houses a large number of very brief audio files in which native speakers say brief, useful, every day phrases in a number of conjugations. Phrases include things like "How much is this?" "How are you?" or simply reciting useful vocabulary and also cover numbers and time. Each phrase is spoken in 8 or 9 dialects from the regions of North Africa, the Levant, and the Persian Gulf. Every phrase is accompanied by a transcript.

The Columbus Public Schools Foreign Language Oral Assessment tests for speaking skills and is offered for any language. The exam can be administered to students of all proficiency levels in 7-12th grade. The exam is based on scenarios and only tests what students can realistically respond to.

¡Contéctate! Intermediate Spanish II is a free, open educational resource Spanish textbook created for an Intermediate Spanish II course at Pacific University (Oregon). The book focuses on the continuing development of communication skills in Spanish while highlighting and encouraging student connections to each other, to their local communities and to the greater world. Activities are student-centered while also incorporating topics and texts useful for understanding several important contemporary issues in Spanish-speaking regions (Latin America, Spain and the United States) such as wellness, sustainability, and migration. The book’s pedagogy is inspired by and adheres to the most recent best practices guidelines published by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).

Critical Language Service offers playlists with video lessons that explain the material in Alif Baa, Al-Kitaab 1 (through lesson 11), and a series on Egyptian vocabulary. Videos designed for the Alif Baa series focus on stories to illustrate new vocabulary while the series designed for Al-Kitaab explains grammatical concepts introduced in the books, and demonstrate proper pronunciation. They also offer a playlist of 60 cartoon episodes in Arabic.

CultureTalk - Arab World features a very extensive selection of filmed interviews with people from different countries in the Arabic speaking world. While some interviews are in English, the vast majority are in Arabic. Translations and usually transcripts are provided for all non-English video clips. Topics include family, food, education, religious and cultural customs, work, art, sport, travel, etc. The regions covered are the Levant, North Africa, Egypt, and Mauritania, with an Iraqi section on the way.

This online dictionary, entirely in Arabic, gives Arabic synonyms and antonyms of words entered into the dictionary, helping to expand the vocabulary of anyone using it. It also gives rhyming words for those interested in writing poetry or for any other reason one might need a rhyming word. The broken plurals of words are also displayed.

This Arabic-English dictionary of the Qur'an is not compiled in the traditional, alphabetical way, but rather by chapter and word order in the Qur'an. The list is available both for viewing online as well as via downloadable PDF documents. Prepositions and attached pronouns are included in the list alongside full words. The word list doesn't include every single word in a particular verse if that word has been mentioned before, i.e. ____ is only listed once in the Surat al-Fatiha vocabulary despite being in the chapter twice. Roots of longer words are frequently given.

Educational Stories of Dictational Rules are sixteen stories and activities in slideshow format. These stories were made for students with learning disabilities. Short vowels, long vowels, the letter ta, double vowels, prepositions, and the letter hamza are some of the explained topics. The slideshows start with a story, state the grammar rule, and end with some exercises. The slideshows are enhanced with audio components.

This dictionary allows the user to look up words either in Arabic, in English, or via an Arabic stem. For instance, if you type in ___ it will give you six different words that have the same stem (or root). The dictionary includes less than 4,000 words, and there is no space to type in Arabic; one must use the online keyboard provided. It is available both online and for PC download.

This online interface processes MSA using four different modes. The 'Resolve' mode provides tokenization and morphological analysis of the inserted text while the 'Inflect' mode lets users inflect words into the forms required by context. The 'Derive' mode allows users to derive words of similar meaning but different grammatical category. The 'Lookup' mode can lookup lexical entries by the citation form and nests of entries by the root; it also allows users to search in the English translations.
