This course details the quantitative treatment of chemical processes in aquatic systems such as lakes, oceans, rivers, estuaries, groundwaters, and wastewaters. Nesse contexto, o viveiro de mudas educador da Escola Bosque, localizado na Ilha de Caratateua, distrito de
Outeiro na cidade de Belém, cidade que segundo o IBGE tem o pior índice de arborização comparada a outras
cidades brasileiras, torna-se um espaço privilegiado para trabalhar uma sequência didática sobre fotossíntese,
sequestro de carbono e mitigação do aquecimento global, apoiada na habilidade de ciências (EF07CI13) da
base nacional curricular comum.

"Over the past decade, a variety of new drugs and surgical techniques have been developed to lower intraocular pressure and treat glaucoma. This trend has reinvigorated interest in understanding how and where aqueous humour outflow occurs. Three main pathways are currently known: trabecular, or **_conventional_**, outflow; uveoscleral, or **_unconventional_**, outflow; and subconjunctival outflow. Current methods for imaging these pathways are at varying stages of development, with conventional outflow imaging being the most advanced. Nevertheless, each route possesses a unique biology that can be leveraged in the quest for more knowledge about aqueous humour outflow. Conventional outflow accounts for approximately 90% of aqueous humour flow under physiologic conditions. Here, imaging methods have focused on capturing structural or flow-based features. The goal of this experiment is to measure the specific storage Ss of a balloon, which simulates aquifer elasticity. The experiment is designed to give observational meaning to the variable, increment of fluid content, and the influence of the state of stress on the specific storage. Increment of fluid content is the poroelastic variable defined as the amount of water added to storage per unit bulk volume. It is analogous to quantity of heat added to a unit volume of a material. Specific storage can then be expressed rigorously as the ratio of increment of fluid content divided by the change in head with specified external stress or strain conditions on the REV.

In this lesson students will examine how society interprets race and ethnicity as a part of identity. In particular, how questions of race and ethnicity have impacted the Arab American community and early attempts to gain citizenship and eventually a separate census category.

Through this lesson, students will gain a greater understanding of the various challenges that Syrian
refugees face. Students will read excerpts from interviews with Sanaa Domat, a Syrian woman originally from Homs. Students will learn about her experience in both her native country and in her new host country. By using oral histories in the classroom, distant events will become more real and relevant to students. Oral histories were collected by students in a Refugee Lives interactive learning course at Duke University, and are part of the Refugee Lives Oral History Project, http://sites.duke.edu/arabiccommunities/.

The website includes PowerPoints available for download on concepts such as telling time, fruits and vegetables, culture, and basic greetings, to name a few. Worksheets to go along with the PowerPoints are also available for free download. The website further includes pictures that are available with the author's permission and some postings on available jobs for Arabic instructors as per 2012.

The main objective of this lesson is to illustrate an important application of mathematics in practical life -- namely in art. Most of the pictures selected for this lesson are visible on the walls of Al-Hambra – Granada (Spain), which is one of the most important landmarks in the Islamic civilization. There are three educational goals for this lesson: (1) establishing the concept of isometries; (2) giving real-life examples of groups; (3) demonstrating the importance of matrices and their applications. As background for this lesson, students just need some familiarity with the concept of a group and a limited knowledge about matrices and the inverse of a non-singular matrix.
