The primary innovation of this text is a new perspective on teaching the theory of integration. Most introductory analysis courses focus initially on the Riemann integral, with other definitions discussed later (if at all). The paradigm being proposed is that the Riemann integral and the “generalized Riemann integral” should be considered simultaneously, not separately – in the same manner as uniform continuity and continuity. Riemann integrability is simply a special case of integrability, with particular properties that are worth noting. This point of view has implications for the treatment of other topics, particularly continuity and differentiability.

The purpose of this learning video is to show students how to think more freely about math and science problems. Sometimes getting an approximate answer in a much shorter period of time is well worth the time saved. This video explores techniques for making quick, back-of-the-envelope approximations that are not only surprisingly accurate, but are also illuminating for building intuition in understanding science. This video touches upon 10th-grade level Algebra I and first-year high school physics, but the concepts covered (velocity, distance, mass, etc) are basic enough that science-oriented younger students would understand. If desired, teachers may bring in pendula of various lengths, weights to hang, and a stopwatch to measure period. Examples of in- class exercises for between the video segments include: asking students to estimate 29 x 31 without a calculator or paper and pencil; and asking students how close they can get to a black hole without getting sucked in.

SCIENTIST NOTES: Simply put, not everyone is swayed by a scientific expert. Often it takes other means to convey a message to someone. That is why is an integral part of climate change communication. Art, scientifically, has a different impact on our thoughts and decision-making than hearing a lecture from an expert. This lesson explores different climate change art projects and shows their potential to reach audiences. This lesson has passed the scientific review process.
POSITIVES: -Students learn that art can be used to address issues that are usually just discussed in scientific terms. -Students learn about a variety of artists whose work deals with climate change. -Students can begin to visualize ways that they might make art about climate change, which can serve as a subsequent lesson. -This lesson is interactive and simulates a real-world situation in the art world, requiring a variety of skills.

This publication introduces Korea's artistic achievement and places it in the context of its history and religions. Works from the Museum's permanent collection form the core of the discussion and are used to illustrate the diversity and beauty of Korean art. These include Buddhist paintings, celadon wares and white porcelain vessels, inlaid lacquerwares, and traditional musical instruments. The boxed set also provides useful teaching tools for the classroom, including maps, an illustrated timeline, a chronology, a glossary, lesson plans, questioning strategies, cross-cultural comparisons, and two large posters. In addition, there are bibliographies for educators and students as well as lists of relevant websites, cultural resources, and film and video resources.
