The Media Manipulation Casebook is a digital research platform linking together theory, methods, and practice for mapping media manipulation and disinformation campaigns. This resource is intended for researchers, journalists, technologists, policymakers, educators, and civil society organizers who want to learn about detecting, documenting, describing, and debunking misinformation, disinformation, and media manipulation.

This is a repository of various sites where OER materials can be found related to art history. Some, like that for the Smithsonian Museum, is useful for finding specific objects and information about them held by that museum. Other sites like Art Story (reviewed elsewhere on OER Commons) are more general textual sites for art historical periods. It is a good starting place for finding OER materials.

This is a simple assignment for students in an introductory course on global health, by Dr. Jennifer Infanti (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). The students are divided into small groups. Working in the groups, they have 48 hours to present “solutions” to an assigned topic: to increase contraceptive use in rural areas of low-income countries. The groups each present their solutions to an evaluating committee and give peer feedback as well. Suggested evaluation criteria for teachers/assessors is also attached.After completing this assignment students will be able to:Describe various reproductive health problems occurring during the different stages in life (childhood, adolescence, adulthood).Identify, for each stage, hindrances to optimal sexual and reproductive health including socio-economic, family and health care factors.Suggest short- and long-term actions which could be implemented to improve reproductive health at different levels in low-resource settings (with a gender perspective). 

Several times per year, seawater floods some of the streets in Charleston, South Carolina. Taking steps to deal with this "nuisance" flooding can help the city prepare for sea level rise.

Model Diplomacy is the Council on Foreign Relations’ (CFR) free multimedia simulation program. It engages students through role-play and case studies to understand the issues, institutions, and challenges of creating and implementing U.S. foreign policy. It is an adaptable interactive resource that promotes independent research, critical thinking, effective communication, and collaborative approaches to problem solving. Model Diplomacy places students in the position of policymakers deliberating hypothetical scenarios based on real issues. Content is informed by CFR experts.

As Public Works Director of Nogales, Arizona, Alejandro Barcenas works to ensure a safe and secure water supply for the city’s 20,500 residents. His task isn’t easy: the city is located in an arid region just north of the United States–Mexico border, and its entire supply comes from groundwater.

Half of Nogales’ water comes from alluvial aquifers that are highly responsive to rainfall events. Though this convenient source of water recharges easily, it is also vulnerable to climate-related changes such as reduced precipitation and increased evaporation. The other half of the city’s groundwater comes from a lower-quality source—this water is more expensive to produce. To optimize the use of the two sources of groundwater into the future, Barcenas is contributing to the development of a modeling tool that simulates how the aquifers may change in response to climate.

Recently, you may have noticed a lot of big news coming out of Indigenous America, from protests at Standing Rock to the return of wild bison to efforts to bring home ancestral remains and artifacts. But when you talk to the movers and shakers, the conversation often comes back around to a bitter history – the Plains Indian Wars. In Season 6 of the Modern West Podcast, we hear the story from the point of view of the Plains tribes themselves. We discover how raw that story still is, and yet how communities are coming together to heal it.

Neighborhoods: a community of intimate personal relationships or a keep to yourself lifestyle?As the readings will dictate in module one, neighborhoods have changed over the years... some say for the worse. Many people keep to themselves and hardly know their neighbors at all. This  ongoing problem of losing the social aspect of a neighborhood is not just in big cities, but also in small towns across the United States. In the first discussion and in paper one we will use the cause and effect mode of essay writing to explore the causes and or effects of some of the problems with our neighborhoods today. We will answer this main question: What are some causes or effects of this trend of neighborhoods in social decline?

There is good reason to invest in tourism in Zanzibar. In 2019, it was expected that over half a million tourists would visit the island, which is only half the size of Funen island in Denmark. Tourists bring in money and growth, but research shows that, for example, Zanzibarians only have 11% of managerial jobs in restaurants and only 20% of tourism revenue goes to the local community, while 53% disappear from the island.

Algal blooms are caused by an aggregation of either microscopic phytoplankton or macro algae. They can produce toxic or harmful effects on humans and or the ecosystem. The purpose of this activity is to teach students how to use remote sensing data from the Landsat 8 (OLI) to monitor algal blooms. Students work through a case study from Lake Erie. At the end of this activity students will be able to, in MATLAB, 1) access USGS data repositories to view Landsat imagery, 2) access band specific .TIF files directly from Amazon Web Services, 3) pre-process the imagery and a apply single band bloom detection algorithm and 4) work with the atmospherically corrected Land Surface Reflectance product to improve remote sensing estimates. Students will also work with the MATLAB Mapping Toolbox to produce presentation quality maps.

 The course seeks to familiarize the learners with the possibilities involved in the management of diabetes and hypertension. This course is to make medical knowledge simpler and accessible for common people. This will help reduce anxiety about the diseases. Reduction in the incidence of threatening complications like cerebral stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, blindness,  diabetic foot and amputations is the goal we need to achieve. The health-aware person, a learner of this course, can be a patient itself, a relative, a neighbor, or anyone from society. Some basic education and a will to help the patient is all that is required.

Climate change adaptation isn’t always welcome as a topic of conversation, even among those who could benefit from it. A recent study hints at a possible path forward.

This document presents an analysis of the use of multiple devices in the context of multimedia-based learning. The paper includes an empirical study of learners who have used multiple devices to access and engage with learning materials. The study findings reveal that the use of multiple devices can enhance the overall learning experience for learners by providing flexibility, convenience, and accessibility. However, the study also identified several challenges associated with the use of multiple devices, such as technical issues and cognitive overload. Based on the study findings, the paper provides recommendations for the implementation of training courses delivered with multiple devices, including the need for clear guidelines and policies, user-friendly interfaces, and technical support. Overall, this document provides valuable insights for educators and trainers interested in leveraging the potential of multiple devices for enhancing the learning experience.
