This resource was created by Crystal Ernst in collaboration with Aaron Delhay as part of the 2019-20 ESU-NDE Digital Age Pedagogy Project. Educators worked with coaches to create Lesson Plans promoting both content area and digital age skills. This Lesson Plan is designed for 7th-9th Grade Math.

Rural isolated Maori communities in Aotearoa face many obstacles in todays world. One of the many challenges encountered by the people in these communities is education. The young people living in isolated communities are disadvantaged in many ways due to the lack of technological resources and support that are available in towns and cities. We live in a digital world, therefore, it is our responsibility to ensure our students experience the various opportunities out there.

This task gives students the opportunity to verify that a dilation takes a line that does not pass through the center to a line parallel to the original line, and to verify that a dilation of a line segment (whether it passes through the center or not) is longer or shorter by the scale factor.

This task does not actually require that the student solve the system but that they recognize the pairs of linear equations in two variables that would be used to solve the system. This is an important step in the process of solving systems.

The purpose of this task is to illustrate through an absurd example the fact that in real life quantities are reported to a certain level of accuracy, and it does not make sense to treat them as having greater accuracy.

Through this lesson and its two associated activities, students are introduced to the use of geometry in engineering design, and conclude by making scale models of objects of their choice. The practice of developing scale models is often used in engineering design to analyze the effectiveness of proposed design solutions. In this lesson, students complete fencing (square) and fire pit (circle) word problems on two worksheets—which involves side and radius dimensions, perimeters, circumferences and areas—guiding them to discover the relationships between the side length of a square and its area, and the radius of a circle and its area. They also think of real-world engineering applications of the geometry concepts.

The 3 act math is a perfect way to incorporate the See-Think-Wonder activity. Dan Meyer is the originator of the 3 act math plays and the Pearson Envisions Math textbook incorporates one every Topic/Chapter. I am writing this lesson plan with the idea of using the Taco Cart 3 act math play. The link to the 3-act-math play is below.Taco Cart http://threeacts.mrmeyer.com/tacocart/

In this seminar you will further your work with polynomials, by learning how to divide them. You will identify which strategy is best for each type of polynomial and you will be able to identify the number of real solutions each polynomial will have. You will also be able to use this process in real world situations.StandardsCCSI: HS: Algebra: HSA-SSE.A. Interpret the structure of expressions.CCSI: HS: Algebra: HSA-SSE.B. Write expressions in equivalent forms to solve problems.

This resource introduces the DoNow project in conjunction with the GoPro challenge. It explains how to implement this curriculum into a language arts classroom (virtual, bricks and mortar, or blended), with an overview, detailed plan, assignments and rubrics, and other resources.
This resource provides lesson plans aligned to CC Standards for language arts that can be adapted to a wide range of LA levels, from middle to high school.

This problem allows the student to think geometrically about lines and then relate this geometry to linear functions. Or the student can work algebraically with equations in order to find the explicit equation of the line through two points (when that line is not vertical).

This task is designed as a follow-up to the task F-LE Do Two Points Always Determine a Linear Function? Linear equations and linear functions are closely related, and there advantages and disadvantages to viewing a given problem through each of these points of view. This task is intended to show the depth of the standard F-LE.2 and its relationship to other important concepts of the middle school and high school curriculum, including ratio, algebra, and geometry.
