Students will talk about their daily routines, as well as how to read a calendar from Spanish speaking countries. They will also discuss different school subjects.

This activity is an inquiry lesson where students learn how to accurately read a thermometer and then set up an investigation to compare the temperatures of different materials or locations.

According to Project Information Literacy, defining and narrowing a topic is the most difficult step for beginning undergraduate researchers. This concept mapping lesson is designed to reinforce the idea that when students are writing academic papers or creating class projects they are engaging in a scholarly conversation.

Working with a partner from the class, students will choose a topic of interest relevant to the field of neuroscience, explore the relevant literature, write a 5-7 page paper on the topic, and present the results of their research to the class in the form of a 5-10 minute oral presentation.

Students will learn about cognates, real and false. First, they will be introduced to cognates by guessing if certain words are real cognates or false cognates. Then, they will look through a series of Spanish ads and magazine clips to try to point out the Spanish-English cognates that are in the writing.

The lesson will develop knowledge for other bases besides base 10. The lesson will investigate base 2, base 8, and base 16. The student will write numbers using expanded notation. This lesson results from the ALEX Resource Gap Project.

This activity is lab based competition. The students engineer a 2-litter rocket to have the maximum hang time. After the initial launch, the students are given an opportunity to re-engineer to produce a better time. The activity finishes with a lab write-up.

Do you remember the first social media account you made? What about the first time you read a news article or retweeted a tweet from your favorite politician? Have you caught your students feeling frustrated after a major event happens and they feel powerless? In this lesson, students will learn about democracy, voting requirements, and how to make a difference in politics. Using lateral reading (a strategy for investigating who's behind an unfamiliar online source by leaving the webpage and opening a new browser tab to see what trusted websites say about the unknown source) students will evaluate news articles or social media content to determine if it is credible to share online. This lesson plan includes a slide deck and lateral reading resources. 

In this assignment students read and discuss a peer-reviewed journal article and prepare for and attend our class 'research' conference. In the conference they present on an area of current research as discussed in the journal article they read, and they practice formulating questions about other's research.

Outcomes:
1. Read and discuss a structural geology peer-reviewed journal article.
2. Prepare a presentation that demonstrates your understanding of a current research topic in structural geology.
3. View and understand several diverse areas within geology and geophysics that use structural geology in research.
4. Ask questions relevant to a research presentation.

This project is a four year initiative focused on integrating arts into the core curriculum through teacher education, practice, and coaching.

Reflection is metacognitive process that creates a greater understanding of ourselves and the situation we are in to inform future actions by this understanding. There is increasing literature on educational approaches for those in undergraduate or postgraduate studies and those continuing medical education to facilitate reflection.  This resource adds to the reflective journal exercise presented previously, by providing a description of reflection, its use and reflection frameworks as well as the way it impacts positively learning outcomes in various educational settings including medical education. Lastly, an example of a reflection exercise for medical education is also added. 

A reflection journal is designed for students to learn from experiences. This reflective journal focuses on basic concepts of academic development for graduate study and future professional development. Reflective learning requires a systematic review of learning experiences and intentional applications of concepts that are discussed in class. Written reflections require substantial context and connectivity of ideas and thoughts. Each journal entry is a minimum of 350 words and submitted bi-weekly. This reflection journal was designed to compliment course lessons and reiterate course learning objevtices.
