In this flipped lesson, students will complete an exit/entrance ticket type activity using a thinking stragegy entitled "Compass Points".  Students will answer 4 questions about their learning and will record their responses to the questions using an application called Recap by Swivl.  They will complete this exit ticket activity after their review of the Spanish verbs that have an irregular "yo" form in the present tense.(ACTFL Standards: Connections - 3.2 & Comparisons - 4.1)

This OER activity was created by Danielle Fulcher as part of the 2024 World Language OER Summer work and training. Educators worked with Chrystal Liu, Nick Ziegler and Dorann Avey to create OER Learning Plans and materials. The attached activity is designed for 9 - 12 World Language Arts teachers for Novice Learners of Spanish. Students will interpret and respond to descriptions of various holidays in Spanish. This activity addresses the following NDE World Language Standard(s): NE WL 1.1.c and NE WL 1.2.cIt is expected that this activity will take students 30 minutes to complete.

Students will participate in a discussion about immigration to the United States. After agreeing to be respectful regarding discussion and the conversation on immigration, students will take a Kahoot Immigration Myth quiz about misconceptions they might have about immigration to the United States. Students will also watch a video, journal their thoughts on the video, and in groups, create a poster to share their thoughts with the class.

Intermediarios: Introduction to Spanish<>English Community and Legal Translation and Interpreting is intended for students who have advanced skills in both Spanish and English and a basic familiarity with translation and interpretation. Activities are based on the U.S. context. Translation activities increase in difficulty. The sequencing of interpreting activities develops skills gradually by beginning with memory exercises, then moving into class role plays, and finally working with legal interpreting exercises of increasing difficulty. Judicial interpreting activities target the three modes of interpreting used in the judicial setting: sight translation of documents, consecutive interpreting, and simultaneous interpreting.
