This series of eight brief videos by Karolyn Kinane, Associate Director of Pedagogy and Faculty Engagement at the Contemplative Sciences Center at the University of Virginia, offers college instructors some basic vocabulary and skills to start engaging in teaching as a contemplative practice. The series introduces contemplative pedagogy with special attention to its role in backward design, offering specific examples from online learning environments in higher education. The videos demonstrate the relationship between course design best practices such as alignment and transparency and contemplative values such as presence, awareness, and compassion. Viewers can engage in exercises to identify the beliefs, habits, and intentions that undergird instructors’ teaching philosophies and practices. Viewers are encouraged to develop strategies to design learning experiences in line with one’s most pressing goals for student-learning.

The Educator & Staff Professional Learning Plan is one component of the K-12 Voices for Open OER - DEIA Action Planning Guide.  This plan, and the entire guide, is intended as a strategic planning tool for district leaders wishing to promote the already pedagogically and financially compelling practice of creating or adapting open educational resources (OER) to help achieve district goals in serving all students through diversity, equity, inclusion, or accessibility (DEIA) lens.  The guide provides step-by-step planning tools, including examples, templates, and resources to help district leaders articulate and establish action plans for what we refer to as "OER-DEIA."  The entire guide is an open educational resource itself, free and openly licensed for reuse, remixing, and resharing.

The Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) provides a curriculum alignment system that helps teachers deliver standards-driven assignments in which students write in response to reading in discipline-specific ways supported by backwards-designed instruction.

LDC tools and learning experiences help teachers and schools meet the challenges of: (1) increasing the rigor of assignments, lessons, and units by becoming truly standards-driven, (2) increasing teachers' knowledge and expertise around instructional planning, and (3) radically changing the expectations schools and teachers have for their students' ability to read and write with depth and breadth—in other words, to be truly college and career ready.

The LDC CoreTools platform includes: (1) a free Curriculum Library that includes nationally-validated tasks and instructional plans that can be modified to meet any teacher's needs; (2) template-driven task and instructional plan editing tools that can be used collaboratively; (3) student-work rubrics and a curriculum-alignment rubric; (4) free professional learning experiences; (5) premium professional learning experiences, resources, and analytics.
