Rating
0.0 stars

ACES (Academic, Career & Employability Skills) The goal of ACES is to ensure that Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs are able to provide effective contextualized instruction integrating post-secondary education and training readiness, employability skills, and career readiness at all levels. The Transitions Integration Framework (TIF) is the cornerstone of ACES. It was designed to provide ABE programs and instructors with guidance on the effective integration of transitions skills into instruction at all levels of ABE. The TIF defines the academic, career, and employability skills essential for adult learners to successfully transition to post-secondary education, career training, the workplace, and community involvement. The ACES Resource Library contains tools to help ABE practitioners incorporate the TIF skills into lessons and instructional settings and provides materials that can be used directly with adult learners.

The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"On-the-job training is critical to any enterprise But how and why employers train employees remains something of a mystery especially in Australia, where research on the subject appears outdated To provide a fresh look, researchers surveyed employers across several industries including government and community services retail and manufacturing Reasons for training seemed to agree with findings reported in older studies But some new trends emerged such as an accelerated need to master new technologies and an increased focus on business strategy— indications of a continuously changing workplace across the board And while financial constraints present a major barrier to training, companies report doing more training than they did five years ago with the amount of training not necessarily linked to the size of an organization Although comparative studies with other countries are needed to tease out further trends these findings could help organizations make more cost-effective decis.."

This course will provide students with an analytic framework to understand the roles that gender, race, and class play in defining and determining access to leadership and power in the U.S., especially in the context of the workplace. We will explore women and men in leadership positions within the corporate, political and non-profit sectors, with attention to the roles of women of color and immigrant women within this context. We will also look at specific policies such as affirmative action, parental leave, child-care policy, and working-time policies and the role they play–or could play–in achieving parity. We will further investigate ways in which these policies address gender, racial, and class inequities, and think critically about mechanisms for change. The course will be highly interactive, and will combine texts, theater, videos and visual arts.

It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"A paper recently published in BMC Psychology reports that mental health stigma in the workplace leads to unemployment much more often than we tend to realize. Ample evidence shows that workplace stigma negatively affects the careers and wellbeing of people with mental health issues and illness—a group 3 to 7 times more likely to be unemployed than others. This makes workplace stigma an important public health problem that deserves more attention. The scientific literature reveals at least four stigma-related problems that negatively affect workers’ sustainable employment. First, negative stereotypes are prevalent, and workplace stakeholders often hold negative attitudes towards people with mental illness. Prejudice makes employers less likely to hire workers with mental illness, and more inclined to let them go. A second problem with workplace stigma is the disclosure dilemma: Both disclosure and non-disclosure can lead to unemployment..."

How can governments become more open and transparent, while simultaneously dealing with various challenges, such as data sensitivity? How can open government data be used to improve policy making? Which technologies are available to make governments more open and to use open government data?

Governments all over the world aim to become more open and transparent in order to establish closer ties with their constituents. However, opening government involves complex challenges and poses two major areas of concerns. First, many different stakeholders are involved and there are various dependencies between them, and second, the technologies that support open government are fragmented. In addition, it is unclear how different contexts should alter the best practices for open government.

This course explores the foundations and objectives of Open Government and examines current developments, including the opening and reuse of governmental data such as the release of data by governments in America and Europe.

This course will empower you, by helping you grasp the key principles surrounding open government.
