"Becoming an Expert: Learn how to Adopt & Adapt Interpersonal Speaking Activities for Your World Language Classroom"

Description:
On August 5, 2022, the Pathways Project facilitated a one-day virtual professional development workshop for world language teachers in the state of Idaho and across the globe.

In this recording, we invite you participate in this hands-on workshop, where you’ll get to practice locating, editing, and creating Open Educational Resources in the Pathways Project. These activities integrate authentic resources and support performance based teaching in interpretive and interpersonal communication.

Students are introduced to safety protocols by evaluating unsafe situations, sharing their ideas with their peers, developing a list of recommended safety protocols as a class, and finally, by comparing the class list to a standard list of safety rules. This activity seeks to demonstrate the importance of safety engineering and illustrate how it helps to prevent injuries and save lives. In this workshop participants will be able to discuss cultural sensitivity and learn to embrace diversity. Cultural blindness — being “fair” by treating everyone the same is often hard to view as problematic. Discussion in this workshop will focus on inspiring students to understand different cultures and beliefs as well as the importance of culturally sensitivity to these different beliefs. This workshop will encourage participants to; explore their own biases, consider different points of view and will utilize cultural lenses to develop cultural sensitivity.
