This is a PowerPoint of common verbs used in the workplace and at home. It can be used for beginning level English language learners. Part 1 uses clip art of 16 verbs and part 2 uses Brendan Tuttle’s artistic illustrations of 28 verbs. The additional PowerPoint is a handout for students to write the verb under the picture and there is also a list of suggested activities for the teacher.

Vocabulary – BodyThis is a great lesson plan for students of all ages and professional backgrounds. In this lesson, your students can practice major parts of the body (head, back, shoulders, knees, etc) and how to use them in simple sentences. This list presents a basic set of vocabulary words that deal with categories of emotions and personality traits, including verbs and nouns that deal with anger, sadness, happiness, and other descriptions of human emotion and behavior. The majority of words contained within the website are nouns, and some verbs are interspersed. The words and verbs are presented in both modern standard and colloquial Egypt, and feature Arabic text and transliteration.

Research shows that engaging students in self-assessment positively impacts language learning, motivation, and learner autonomy. To help World Language Educators accomplish this, the Nebraska Department of Education invited experienced world language teachers across the state to create student-friendly assessments in the form of can-do statements in the summer of 2022. This document is a student-friendly self-assessment activity for Intermediate Mid world language learners created based on the 2019 Nebraska World Language Standards. The language use described in all can-do statements is meant for the target language, except for the second for standard 3.1 and the first for standard 4.2. It is recommended that word language teachers engage students with this document three times in an academic year: pre-course, mid-course, and post-course. Engaging students with this self-assessment activity will help students see growth over time and hopefully attribute growth to effective learning practices. Additionally, you can see how the OSPI, ESD WaKIDS Coordinators, and Teaching Strategies can offer technical assistance. 

It happens in almost every classroom community: Someone has something someone else wants. Someone has the hottest new video game, sneakers or action figure; someone else feels jealous and expresses these feelings in unproductive ways. Issues of class and materialism underlie these interactions, and children often lack ways to talk productively and openly about what is really going on.

The lessons that follow will start a conversation about material consumption. We will explore why we want the things we want, how it feels not to have everything we want, and how to appreciate non-material possessions that can make us rich in deeper ways. In the upper elementary grades, children will also be encouraged to think critically about media messages and will have an opportunity to engage in a social action project aimed at minimizing materialism and entitlement.
